RightStuf has two difference versions of the OVA sets. This one, which is priced at $62 and This one priced at $40.
Now the latter is the "Director's Cut," and it is priced cheaper. Both include all three OVAs (I think), so it doesn't make sense to me why the director's cut would be cheaper. Granted, the first link looks far cooler, in my opinion. So, basically my question comes to, what's the difference? Is the ~$20 because of the box? I don't understand why the version with supposedly "more" would cost less. **EDIT** Also, I'd like to ask if anyone knows where I could find the art boxes to house the DVDs for the first two seasons of Kenshin. I believe they are two separate boxes, but I can't find them on sale anywhere. |

The ANN review for the Director's Cut has a complete run down on the differences between it and the original 4 episode OVA. I have not seen it myself, but based on the "plusses" and "minuses" given at the end of the review, I'd stay away from the Director's Cut version. If you are going to spend a few extra bucks on any anime, the original OVA is a good one to spend it on -- it is fantastic.
It looks like this set also includes the Director's Cut of the Reflection OVA. I think the Trust & Betrayal and Reflection Director’s Cuts were originally released separately, but this set has collected them both in one box. By the way, as much as I love RightStuf, their price on the original OVA set is not so good. A quick search on DVD Price Search will give a number of other options. |

Yeah, I just found much better prices for both the DVDs.
And thanks for the link, it helped a lot. Now all I need is an answer to my edit and I'm set. |

There aren't any offical artboxes for Kenshin, all there is are the bento boxes that each come with one season each. They don't hold the cases rather each dvd goes in a little sleeve, I wouldn't recommend it people say there dvd's were getting scratch up. I am not sure if you can get them from the manufactor anymore either I remember them being extremely rare try ebay I guess. As always check the encyclopedia for Kenshin information including DVD releases. There is a brick for all three season, each brick holds one respective season. I have season one (of the brick) and I really like it, I plan on buying season 2 once I can get a decent price. Ebay has not been to kind for that second season, reason being it's has 8 dvds and it's also the most popular season so most people are trying to get it. I was able to get season one for 20 dollars thou. Ahh, I see, that's a shame. The reason I ask is because I already own the DVDs with episodes 1-62 (I consider that to be all they ever made
 ). I just wanted a nice box to house them in and make it look all pretty like, heh.

Concering the OAV box set, they were orignally released in separate volumes: 2 DVDs for Tsuioku-hen with 2 episodes per disc, and 1 DVD for Seisouhen's 2 episodes. The OAV box set houses the original releases in their original format.
The Director's Cut versions are cropped and edited to make the OAVs feel like one long movie. If you read the reviews, you can see what was changed. I personally, would not recommend the Director's Cut box, and you can read this thread for a better explanation. Concering artboxes for the TV series, there are no official boxes sold seperately, but I know of place to get customized metal ones. Go here for various artboxes. Some come in color, others are just plain metallic. Feel free to browse, but to save you the search, here are pictures of the ones I like: Season 1 Season 2 I've also seen one for the OAVs, but it actually was made to fit all versions including the orignal OAV and DC versions. You may want to ask them about it as well since these can be customized. I think any one box costs around $30, but keep in mind these are metallic and customizable. |

It's a bit late for you as you already have the DVDs but if anyone is looking to buy Kenshin and wants nice artboxes I recommend the Region 4 Australian releases as they come in nice chunky artboxes with the individual cases inside. Here's a pic from my shelf showing them. Kenshin boxes on shelf I love them as I can't stand those paper thin boxes alot of series come in. |

Is there any way to get just the boxes from an Australian website? I would absolutely do that.
