And people still say to me, "Japanese? Why are you studying Japanese? Chinese is the one to study?"

Then they go on about how "everything is made in China." Hmm, I'll stick with my study of Japanese, thanks.

Ah well...the window closes a bit further on a possible unity between titans.

The thing is, it could be worse. Plus it's only 5-8 so they could just show Pokemon and The Simpsons at 4 or 9. But don't compare this to North Korea, they have it much, much, worse. If you think about it, this might happen to the US if there's a President who's far enough to the Right or something of the sort. It like this, the Chinese government is doing things concerned mothers and Republicans wished they could do.

Anyways, there's always bootleg DVDs...

Wow, I'ver never seen so many idiotic post about china in a single thread. Especially those that don't know the culture/history of china, but go on to shout "ANIME Ban?, I hate you" comment.

I know it's not directly related to the thread topic, but the SAME EXACT thing happened to me the other day. I was in the doctor's office, and my physician was asking me about my major -- and then he told me I should be studying Chinese instead of Japanese. No regard for what I actually want to study.

"Chinese is the way to go." Direct quote.

Something like this will never happen in America no matter how Right, Left, Up, Down or whatever else the president may be. (Yeah, I know those last two aren't real political words.) We have freedom of speech here. "People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."

Things like that just don't happen in communism. -_-;

Looks to me like it's just time to go back to the archaic "VCR." Or maybe those are banned there too...

Though there has been much hyberpole in this discussion, and it is ONLY during prime time we do have to keep in mind that China has a history of censorship. It is not entirely unreasonable to assume that this is only the first step to ban the anime from China entirely. This is the same government that has organized anti-Japan demonstrations within the last year. That said, my gut tells me this has more to do with economics more than anything else.

That's where the beauty of torrents comes in. See, the internet isn't just for porn.

I don't think you should make ignorant comments like that. At least back it up with why you dislike the government. I, for one, am not a fan of their government either. But it's not because they took anime off of Primetime. I could care less what they do about their anime scheduling when they have other problems within that government. I dislike how the Chinese government ravaged Tibet, a peaceful nation. I dislike how thye limit the amount of information their people can get off the Internet because they don't want certain ideas being spread that would be in any way detrimental to the way people think of the government. I have other reasons why I dislike the Chinese government, but I feel that I've made my point.

But, who really cares? It's not like we can do anything about it. It's their government, so they can do what they want within it to an extent. And besides, it's just anime that we're dealing with right now. Taking anime off of Primetime isn't hurting anyone, except for maybe the creators.

Keep in mind, that this is only from 5-8 PM. ANN's headline smacks of hyperbole.

Honestly, thanks to Teletoon, I still believe that Canada has it worse...

but see the bigger issue here is beyond anime, they're moving to stamp out pretty much anything foreign.
Kinda like the CRTC (maybe a slight exageration but still...)

To be honest comparing China banning anime to the regime in North Korea etc. is slightly retarded. (Anime ban! OMG! ITS WORSE THAN THE HOLOCAUST!!!)

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."

Mmm, I dunno about that, I for one, am afraid of Bush and he doesn't seem to be bothered about his people either.
