Stop shouting and whining. Even Japanese readers have to wait four full YEARS for the fifth volume of Renai Distortion. It sucks, but it just happens, so get over with it. And now I have to worry whether its Taiwanese licensor will continue licensing it... |

That would be awfully stupid to not get the 9th and final volume of the series. Might even cause some riots or something. Guess it's a good thing I can read Japanese and don't have to wait for the English version.

*shrug* At least it's not like the Holic fans where we had to basically wait at least 5 MONTHS for each release because it caught up with the Japanese tanboukan release. the US translated volumes simply caught up with the Japanese tanboukan release of Genshiken. I'm not surprised that it extended the release. And I heard that they WILL to Vol. 9 which is basically a fanbook of sorts, but it might be a while since the Japanese tanboukan just came out like a week ago. |

we should have some kind of translating printing machine to do this. more accurate translations, and much, much faster releases.

I've heard some people say its a fanbook of sorts and other say that its the last volume of the actual story, so I'm not quite sure what it is. |

In point of fact, a mechanical translator would be more likely to introduce errors into a text rather than removing them. Seriously, have you looked at the poor quality of the babelfish-type translators on the web? Translation is more of an art than a science, and for art you really need a human hand involved somewhere along the line. As for the speed of releases, all I can say is suck it up and deal. Sure, it may be somewhat annoying that Shonen Title X has a three or four month wait between volumes, but whining about it won't make it come out any faster. The release of a volume of manga is the end result of a long and involved production process, and without paying proper attention to all the steps that come before that release it's easy for consumers to get whiny. As a note, this refers to all sorts of releases, not just manga releases. The deadline for a translation (or a script, or a manuscript) to be turned in may be many months before the volume is due for release. With first volumes the translators are almost always working on the translation before the title is even announced by the publisher. There are plenty of series where the American release has caught up with the Japanese release, and plenty of other titles where the American publishers decide early on to format their release schedule specifically so they don't catch up with the Japanese release. It's a business and marketing strategy, and it's logical for the companies to do this. ~Shadrach Anki |

The volume 9 that I have with me is the true conclusion to the storyline of Genshiken. There's not much to it though, spoiler[the second to last chapter just had all the characters kind of reminicing with no dialogue, and the ture ending is when Sasahara graduates from college.] |

Genshiken is one of those things that will be worth it when it comes, i prefer waiting, because, when its over, its over. I just figure that they are putting extra effort into the last two. Take the OVA episodes right now for example, the ones that are attached to the Kujibiki Unbalance series dvds, those are going to come to us very, very slowly, but I don't mind, despite some peoples opinions, i think the animation for those are really well done. I look forward to each episode, as it slowly trudges its way onto dvd.

I have to agree with everyone else, just suck it up, four months really isn't that long, especially considering the English release has caught up to the Japanese one. Other series take much longer (I've been following Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden for two years now and there's only five volumes out and I believe Japan is only at six, since only 2 vols come out a year).
Everyone has to wait. Be thankful it's only four months, rather than a year or more (which is the average wait I have for non-manga series that I follow). |

Yeah, but Genshiken has ended. Catching up only matters if the series is still going in Japan. Since Genshiken has ended, "catching up" is a non-issue. |

It's not the translation process that's taking a long time because a typical translator can probably do 2 or 3 book a month easilt. In a business like this, it can be many factor that will delay a release of an imported book. For new material, they actually have to contact the japanese company to send/scan the recently release item, where else the previous volumes were all sent over at the same time (thus mininal delay). And I have a feeling that Japanese companies like to wait and send over multiple volume from different series at once rather than 1 at a time. The other reason as mention before, caught up with Japanese, printing time, taking their time, business decision that is best for the long term surival of the company. etc. There's a lot of strategy and planning, not just trying to flood the market with quick releases. And 4 month delay is not that big of a deal. Waiting for something like new final fantasy game can take forever. |
