Here is the video for the theme from Space Dandy, "Viva Namida".
The song is by Yasuyuki Okamura, and the video is directed by Sayo Yamamoto and produced by BONES. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2LiwY8npwo Dammitall, why isn't it 2014 yet?!?! |

Care to actually discuss it? Like, do you see any of Watanabe's influence, does any aspect of the video get you excited for what's already told in the show's premise, etc.?

Well yeah, I'm already super stoked about Space Dandy, but after watching this, I was saying "Why isn't it 2014 yet?!" The animation they created specifically for the video is unprecedented; they put just as much effort into creating Yasuyuki's dance moves that they did into an episode of the show itself. Not to mention I love the bright, vibrant colors, and the tune just has this funky-fresh sort of "oomph" to it that you can't help but enjoy.
I listened to this like 8 times on repeat when I first found it. I know it's not the custom to include music videos on R1 releases, but I hope whoever inevitably licenses the show includes it on the disc. I'd love to rewatch this on my TV in 1080p. If the show turns out to be half as much fun as this video is, then we're already looking at one of the best anime of the decade. You have to wonder, though.... Why are they putting this out now when the show still doesn't come out for several months? Really trying to get the buzz started early, I suppose. |

Actually, I did find the song pretty catchy, especially with the dancing you mentioned. I'm a big fan of Watanabe and think he's got a knack for making very entertaining stuff. Even with this video being released way before the show, maybe some of the animation and art could make its way into some kind of fusion-style with what Watanabe ends up putting on the screen ('cause he's good with the fusion stuff).
Really, the only thing that could make me even more excited is if he got Yoko Kanno to do the music. |
