A lot of the items for Evangelion are sold out as expected. I didn't see many items with Shinji so I assume they all get soaked in tears before reaching the market.
I would (NOT) purchase such overpriced goods but if fools consumers want to spend that much then have at it.

I take it this won't be avaliable outside of Japan or Asia.

Doesn't surprise me, this is Japan after all a lot of thing are overpriced, and add the tax hikes, how can you sell these??

Wonder what types of jobs the avg. Japanese post-college grad have that they can afford these items if you don't count those young overworked yet underpaid animators.

The red tote bag in the Asuka collection is really cool, but I personally can't justify the price. The Pen-pen socks are also adorable, but I already spend too much money on materials for knitting socks.
If you really think about it though, there are people out there who spend that kind of money, or more, on designer purses, shoes, and clothes. This is the same kind of deal, it's just designer stuff for nerds.

I'm surprised that they waited so long to do this. Well, again now is the time to milk the franchise for what it was worth. The 90's was a different period so there might not have been as much buzz as there is now. We got AoT and that's being milked so maybe is the time with all the news movies for EVA and it's staying power then merchandising now is a go.

Gasero, I think that Shinji's not as popular with EVA items because he's what many people might call "emo" or a "crybaby" and that those people might find the personalities of Rei, Asuka, and Misato more appealing.
I think that if he had total absence from any Eva items, then it doesn't really seem like EVA because he is such a core series figure though Eva-01 is likely more popular than him in the Eva item department.
Since EVA does have sufficient fan service, the Eva girls likely get marketing preference. Likewise, if a series has several bishounen even if there's various female characters, the bishounen might get marketing priority.

If you look at it some of the stuff they make it isn't that bad or that expensive. I mean it's only a few bucks more than most of the crap they sale here stateside it's not like it's so over priced you could never afford it.
Only downside I see is ordering direct from Japan if they will ship over seas and if they do the cost of shipping on top of the order.
I saw a wallet on their that costs 115 US dollars that I would love to own. Love the look and features and the build quality and can't find anything remotely similar to replace my current 10 year old wallet, everything is so cheaply made now a days, and I've seen 200 plus dollar leather wallets that don't impress me. My current wallet I'd pay 200 dollars for the exact same one it's served me so well but the same company only makes cheap 20-30 dollar wallets now that are garbage.
And that Rei pixel faced shirt is not 90 dollars it's 50 dollars which is 20 dollars more than say Hot Topic would sell it for if they carried it. Still wouldn't buy it for 10 bucks since I don't like the look of the shirt.
Also some of those shoes they make I would buy in a heart beat. Yes I'm a big Eva fan but a lot of that merchandise just doesn't appeal to me even if you slap the Evangelion Brand all over it.
Seems like a bunch of people just like to complain if it isn't cheap like such and such product then they are getting ripped off.

Strip nekkid and put on a necklace. You're dressed like Pen Pen. Done.
Or you could just wear a tux, but then you're dressed like every other penguin out there...

Looks decent, but very overpriced.
You know what I'd want instead? Jerseys or hoodies with Unit numbers on them. I've seen some people wear them and I'm dying to own one.

Don't wear anything that's close to "Longanus" outside.
Do wear "The Beast" in the bedroom.

Yeah that's the problem, there's no way average young Japaneses would be able to afford these with the price + the tax hikes. That's the same question I would like answer.

I honestly don't see what is so trendy about those oversized, overpriced clothes...
