It will be awesome to see the ending portrayed by author rather that anime original ending.

^ I agree...but with so few episodes left I have to question how rushed it might feel.

^Yeah at first I thought the anime is rushing when I got a news that they almost covered volume 1 in episode 1. But after seeing the end result(Actually I have yet to see the anime because I only marathon anime) which was viewers satisfaction, I can more or less guarantee that Ito will give you something that you will definitely like and will be memorable.

It was never said the ending would be anime-original. The director Tomohiko Ito said himself the anime would portray the MANGA'S original ending. It just so happens the manga will end before the anime unlike previously thought. They will both have the same ending though.

I don't know where people keep getting this idea. It's repeated in almost every article about Erased, even this one (emphasis mine) that the anime's ending will be the same as the manga's:

Director Tomohiko Ito posted on the anime's official Twitter account earlier this month that the show will portray the original manga's ending. |

Sorry, but how do you figure that it's rushed? We're 1/3 into the season and have 2/3 to go and he just high a major event in the manga, him celebrating his birthday and thinking he accomplished what he set out to do.
Can some one let me know of how many volumes have been animated already and how many are left to do, to better assess if this will feel rushed or not?

According to Wikipedia, there are seven volumes so far; six of which have been scanlated with a total of 35 chapters. We've gotten, so far, to chapter 12, and the first six chapters were condensed into the first episode. It seems like the number of chapters per volume is roughly 6, so 12/42 (though I'd bet the number of magazine chapters exceeds the number of volume chapters) means we're roughly...28% through? Maybe closer to 25%, if we account for the chapters the magazine's ahead by and we assume it ends in one more whole volume (i.e., six chapters more).
TL;DR: Too much math? We're probably around 1/4 way through the whole story, but keep in mind the first episode condensed the first six chapters, and they might do that again (and just as elegantly) to keep the story moving at a nice pace.

I hope I wasn't alone in thinking when they said earlier that "Original Ending" meant an ending that wasn't going to be used since at the time the manga was still on-going.
But yeah this is great news. Or not so great since I'll most likely love it to pieces and get stabbed in the back by Aniplex of America's release of it.

It certainly isn't the time that sometime like that happens. Arakawa Hiromu's Fullmetal Alchemist (the 2009 remake) and Arakawa Naoshi's (not related) Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso are two such examples.

Have yet to start watching the anime myself, but seeing as the series isn't too long...could someone please license the manga?

So we're gonna have another FMA: Brotherhood and Shigatsu thing here, alright, cool. At least is gonna be the ending of the manga and not anime original

Unless it's an open-ended manga (or a hazy ending)

Now that's just mean. It's a mystery, mysteries need endings. They also need detectives, not adults in the body of a kid.
Wait...
