Huh! Still haven't seen the short but I guess putting it on Toonami wouldn't hurt.

Short to be 1st anime work to air with subtitles on Toonami

Uuuuuuhhh...

I... I'm not gonna lie, I'm both intrigued and concerned at the same time.

Interesting, the only Anime I've seen on TV with subtitles before has been Ghibli films. Then again it is airing among a big Anime block.

Y'know, excluding the Japan arc of Black Lagoon. The subtitles there were a welcome surprise, as is this.

Worth noting that Blood: The Last Vampire aired subtitled on Sci-Fi (or was it Syfy by that point) Channel's AniMonday block. Though, in that movie's defense, it's bilingual, so half-English, half-Japanese.

Considering the amount of success this short has made, Maybe A-1 should consider making it a full movie or something.

As earlier poster said its just song and A-1 has given Toonami so much successful business with SAO and others. I think this just A-1 wanting show this on TV and Toonami listened out of respect for important business partner

Kind of surprised they didn't ask a random VA to dub this, since it's just narration. Not that I mind the subtitles. Smile

I want to believe this could set a precedent for future programming

But it's a five minute music video of an English language song

But really though if toonami works the same as anime programming worked with [as] I don't see why they don't air dubbed shows then the subbed counterparts when they repeat the whole block, and especially considering how relevant simulcasts have become to the anime dubbing industry, why they still rarely bother to pick up shows while they're still airing (Code Geass being the major exception I always remember)

Being a huge fan of the song, I actually wanted Rin to get an English voice actress (Bryn Apprill maybe?). But this is still very cool news.

I'm betting the success here is 99% because of the rare partnership with a westerner like Porter Robinson and not so much because of the short itself, if they do a movie, it'd probably diminish that view and be too much of a good thing, so to speak.

Anime Network shows Subtitled Anime all of the time on TV along with English Dubs, but for Toonami this is pretty unusual. But I guess since this isn't a TV Show, it's ok that it's Subtitled.

I'd love a subtitled anime channel that's actually in my cable package (or better yet, on public tv!)
If there are 2 local channels that show subtitled Korean dramas (18 & 44) it doesn't seem so farfetched.
