(Collectively, the tweets spell out "Arigatō Gozaimasū")

No, they actually spell "akemashite omedetou" (happy new year).

They managed to escape this year's clutches before us, those fortunate souls.

I already forgot what was this year's animal but I always found pigs (though many of the illustrations here feature boars) funny. There are some really nice pictures here anyway.
Here's something I don't understand, why did Sushio draw the cast of Kill La Kill as the main cast from AKIRA? Does the story take place in 2019?, because that's the only reason I can imagine, though curiously this year was the film's 30th anniversary and the story predicted that the 2020 Olympics will be held in Tokyo.

I can answer that! Yes the story does take place in 2019. A lot of focus has been put on the series, including for the Olympics.

The Chinese and Japanese zodiac differ on this animal—it's the pig in China and the boar in Japan. All the Japanese artists should be drawing boars unless they're going for a joke.

(Similarly, the Chinese zodiac features a goat, but the Japanese version has a sheep.)

Usually find these holiday messages are excuses to promote current anime and game projects or sometimes for people trying to keep themselves in the "public eye" (Sushio) but I was a little surprised to see Last Exile:Fam with a message since they haven't posted in a few years. Sorry guy, that show flopped fairly badly so why...?

Not exactly anime but the puppeteers, and puppets, from Pili and Thunderbolt Fantasy have made a short video celebrating the New Year.
