Honestly, it's probably an established niche genre at this point, much like mecha and magical girls. Even in many non-monster girl centric fantasy Japanese media, a monster girl is going to be part of the protagonist's harem if it's a harem anime or be involved as a method of fan service. Many isekai shows are like this. To be fair, cat girls are a pretty old Japanese trope at this point, so Japan embracing other anthromophized animals or fantasy monsters isn't too much of a stretch.

Iirc, it's not that he refuses to treat guys but, conveniently, all his patients are female. Basically this the type of harem show where you can count the number of male characters with one hand and still have room.

This season Interspecies Reviewers is proof that the genre is alive and kicking and probably just received a shot of steroids and therefore will become even wilder in seasons to come (as in "tone it down? they are going to dial it up to 11!").
