Unfortunate it was released in one of the worst weeks for the US box office in like 20 years.

Well, in regards to anime movies making any money at all in limited screenings, this is pretty good by these kinds of standards, especially since this is considered Satoshi Kon's magnum opus. I'm glad it's making decent money in the box office, and one can't really predict stuff like this happening to begin with.

I thought Perfect Blue was considered his magnum opus, don't me wrong this is my favourite of his films but Perfect Blue seems to be the most praised and renowned.

Are you sure about that? This seems pretty low, even for a limited screening. Not that I'm sure how well this would have done, even if we weren't all on corona lockdown. As much as I love Tokyo Godfathers, I would think that it isn't as well known or as popular as his more prolific works like Perfect Blue.

I thought Millennium Actress was the one considered by most to be his best. I guess having a lot of masterpieces makes it difficult to form a consensus.

Seriously, especially for smaller companies like GKIDS who mostly have more limited releases. Funimation is incredibly lucky they released the new My Hero Academia movie when they did and not just a few weeks later.
