I can't say I blame the artist but I do wish they would second think this. They said they don't get paid which has me wondering if they don't get paid much even in their own country....

The pay (and the comic's survival) from websites like Lezhin or Webtoon depends on subscribers and views on the site. Popular comics get pretty good pay, not so much if you're not popular (around minimum wage, if you're working alone). Naturally they don't get paid from pirated sites views/subscribes.
