How is Media Blasters still holding on after all these years with basically one guy?

At this point, Media Blasters' business model appears to be to license bottom of the barrel stuff that barely anyone in Japan cares about anymore, give it a blu-ray release and try to ride the wave of notoriety and infamy, and then license it out for streaming.
I'm guessing it probably doesn't work very well most of the time, considering how they've been entirely incapable of grabbing anything thing bigger than stuff like this. Their streaming flagship property appears to be World War Blue which...I don't think anyone is clamoring to see.

Why doesn't Media Blasters put out an HD release of Fushigi Yugi instead of stuff like Eiken?

I ask myself the same question too. They even aired this on Encore Action IIRC back in the day.

Well, I presume that MB isn't what they used to be anymore, and most of their previous licenses they had before expired except the ones that are currently being sold on home video (mostly around the TV-MA range). Dunno if they still have the license/rights to Fushigi Yugi at this point, but who knows.
The only title I still have from MB (from their AnimeWorks line) is Midori Days, and that's really much it, only way I can see Fushigi Yugi/Mysterious Play and other old MB titles being re-released would mostly be by Discotek. (Or unless another company out of nowhere picks up old titles like that. Still waits paitently for Virtua Fighter being re-released, lol.)

| The DVDs are still in print and you can also still watch the stream on Crunchyroll.

Aye, but looking into the CR page for Mysterious Play, seems the rights are now with Discotek, so...yeah, lol. (Though that's streaming, however. Doesn't look like they've done a home video re-release of the sort.)

This is one of those titles where most of the people who buy it aren't going to announce they're buying it. They'll just pre-order it and when it arrives, they'll add it to the collection.

With them releasing trash like this, I'm surprised they haven't tried to re-release vintage trash on BD that revels in titillation and carnage. Like Fight! Iczer-One and Guy: Double Target, which Discotek hasn't gotten to. I'm sure there's a market for that, but would it bring it as much revenue as newer stuff like Eiken? How about vintage hentai from the '80s?

Except for super muscular women.
Especially ones paired up with shoutas.

To this day, I wonder what made them thought that was such a good idea. Like what the hell, Encore?
