However, it is also highly character-focused and mostly of Riselia; I was expecting more landscapes or battle scenes to go along with the text but I am not sure if that is the norm or not.

Most light novels avoid illustrations of fight scenes because the artists specialise more in drawing cute girls (some will have one or two fight scene illustrations but not heaps). For a title like this, it'll mainly focus on the girls (presumably the harem the main dude will build). If there's a fanservice scene it will almost without doubt have an illustration (either during the story or the coloured image at the start)

I always assume that if a light novel is chosen to be licensed in English, there must be a particular 'something' that makes the title stand out.

Regardless, I still think this is a weird choice for a first light novel experience.

I find the manga version better than the LN. Leo's personality is better and the art makes certain elements more clear.

That makes sense. I suspected that drawing the battle scenes wasn't where the money was at, so to speak.

Sometimes we pick our assignments, other times Anime smile + sweatdrop ...

I got the vibe that it would be much improved with a fully fleshed out adaptation.
