I remember thinking that the anime would be a big hit similar to HxH 2011, but I never saw anyone talk about it in a year and honestly thought it was over already

The lack of weekly simulcasts certainly plays a role in that, but you should also consider the fact that, unlike Hunter x Hunter back in 2011, Shaman King is based on a manga that ended (twice) a long time ago and wasn't half as successful as HxH, not to mention it's produced by a lesser studio and only got 52 episodes to cover 30+ volumes' worth of story. It's a miracle it even got made at all.
