I largely agree with the ANN review: not a bad movie, but also very by-the-numbers and so it's not really indicative of Ultraman at all. My biggest gripe is that the MC being an Ultra is wholly inconsequential.
That said, the creative team told the story that they wanted to tell & Rising has been embraced by the fandom so I'm happy for its success and everyone involved.
