IGN gave a more harsh review and to be fair I can see their point. I want to get back to exploring and learning more about the mysterious pokemon not spend time in high school. We have enough anime set in high school. Also I wish the dub kept the Japanese track. Seriously I never understood why the pokemon dub insists on replacing the superior Japanese ost with boring generic Western music.

So the music is the English dub is terrible compared to the Japanese version? I assumed that the dub isn't good at all because of this one problem. I think Westerns or Americans always get the inferior version of kids' anime like this. |

I really wish there was some way to watch it with the English dub while keeping the original soundtrack.

The dub soundtrack is genuinely bad, but what makes it worse is the really weird placement.

Hot take. I don't think the music is that bad.

At this point the dub replacement music has been bad for like a decade, since XY. Until there's a complete change of guard it's not really going to get any better

To be honest, I never understood that, ever since children anime like Cardfight!! Vanguard, and even Digimon have subtitled release and they can still be watched online by kids today. I don't know why Nintendo and Pokemon Company USA still have this mentality of doing this practice when these same kids that are watching Pokemon are probably watching One Piece, Naruto, and My Hero Academia online and probably in subtitled format on streaming like Crunchyroll. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if any young girls that are watching Pokemon are probably Pretty Cure on CR too. As I've said in the past, I don't know why Pokemon doesn't get with the time and just do simulcast subtitled episodes since a lot of anime including children anime can get simulcast release the same day it come out in Japan and USA. I mean look at all the anime being simulcasted or have gotten simulcast in the US (beside Pokemon Evolutions, no other Pokemon series has ever gotten any simulcast let alone a subtitled release when other children anime can get them). So Nintendo and Pokemon Company USA, what the hell? Are you going to get with the time and follow suit? So My Hero Academia and One Piece can get both simulcast and subtitled releases, and young kids that are watching Pokemon are probably also watching them too, and yet Pokemon can't get a simulcast and subtitled release like One Piece and MHA get. |

So, for me, Horizons starts off pretty strong, has a reasonable slow down at the point Terapagos joins the group but that's not too bad considering it's a long running show and does keep moving the story forward at a decent clip (Just to note I watch these weekly not in the Netflix batches as such I won't be talking much or at all about the dub) but starts to introduce some problems that I was hoping would be ironed out by the time the school arc started only keep those and gain some more problems. Horizons never gets "bad" or anything by my estimation but my honeymoon period with it has long since been over.
I'm not terribly crazy about the way the terastalization battles are handled as, barring Dots it kind of just kills all the tension of a battle for me, it made Liko's battle feel like a giant disingenuous farce when it was over and Roy's didn't fare that much better. Dot's worked for me since it genuinely felt like she could lose instantly via the terrible match up as well as, frankly having a much stronger narrative underscoring her battle, making that she lost said battle but still passed feel genuinely earned story wise. I actually felt the Elite four battles were a stronger set of episodes as I liked the set up of partnering the kids with Gym leaders to help balance things out a bit. Even though Dot and Iono won their match Iono basically carries her (and sometimes even makes things unnecessarily harder for Dot) Roy got to employ some on the fly strategies that show his growth despite still losing and Liko got to actually care about battling for it's own sake. I have heard some mixed opinions on whether or not her crying at her loss was earned but it made sense to me as a turning point to how her character has been before, especially considering what she values most are the feelings of others, especially her own pokemon who wanted to win. I did appreciate Friede getting an episode showing him doing his own research into things and even having to break out of a set up, it genuinely makes me curious about certain future events that I can't bring up in the confines of this review section. On that note, all I'll say is that for as exciting as a prospect of the two (best) explorers members and Sidain disguising themselves as students/staff and acting in the background of this arc, the end result isn't as terribly interesting as I would have hoped. This particular batch isn't so bad to me in retrospect but I think the second half of this arc is where I have more issues baring the last few episodes. I haven't been paying too much attention to the dub much but maybe I'll sample a few episodes to see how the performances fare. I already know the music is probably gonna suck but if I prepare myself for that maybe it won't be so bad. I do know someone who primarily watches the dub for this series and I haven't heard them complain about the music much at all and they've been having a blast with the show, so hey more power to em. |

I mean, I respect that everyone has their own metrics on what constitutes a bad dub, but personally, I feel to say the dub isn't good at all just because of that one aspect is seriously discrediting the casting, voice acting, and dub script, which I feel are the best they've been in a long, long time. Other than the antiquated practice of replacing the music, I think the dub is extremely solid for the most part. |

That's a lot of Horizons in a nutshell tbh. Lots of neat setup that isn't given enough time to have the impact that it should, which definitely gets worse in the second half of this arc (I'm so sorry for what they did to you Kilowattrel) |

OK. I rather not talk in depth on this like you would because i might remember everything you would said due to how very long replies you make. |

You can talk to me about it via PM/Private Message if you want, my PM line is open to anybody (including you) on ANN if you choose/want to instead of talking about it here. |

There is! You just gotta know where to look, but people definitely took note of how, other than the music, the dub was faithful to the Japanese and extremely good, so they got to work. |
