So let me understand from reading this article: no streaming providers in Japan has ever stream any Ghibli's feature-length animated films (not counting the Grogu and Dust Bunnies animated short on Disney+) prior to this article when we in the US/North America and elsewhere have Ghibli films streamed on Netflix, & HBO Max already for some time. So this will be the first time that a Studio Ghibli's feature length animated film will be getting stream on Netflix in Japan, a first for a Ghibli [feature length] film in Japan.
Am I correct on this statement? |

I already know that, but somehow it took Japan almost 5 years since Miyazaki's no idea what streaming is remark for any of Ghibli's animated film to appear on streaming, it shouldn't take that long for a Ghibli film (let alone an animated feature length one) to get on streaming in Japan while other countries like USA, Europe, etc... has already done this since 2020/2021. I'm not sure if Miyazaki is entirely to be blame for any Ghibli's feature-length animated films not appearing on streaming despite several of Ghibli films were not directed by him. |

Do you really think that Japan folks want to fudge with Miyazaki.

I didn't say that, I know was slow to adopt new technology not until well I think very recently. But back on topic, I can't believe in 2025, we have to wait that long for a Studio Ghibli's full-length film to finally get stream in Japan. |

This surprises me since both Earwig and the Witch and Boy and the Heron have been available on streaming in the US since their home releases. I guess Ghibli wants that physical media money from their home market.

Miyazaki's feelings on streaming have nothing to do with why Ghibli films aren't on streaming in Japan as the article clearly explains the reasons why.

This is an article from Yahoo Japan on the topic. If you are interested, use DeepL.
In summary, NTV wants high ratings. (The Boy and the Heron earns 12.4% rating) Miyazaki, Suzuki, and Ghibli aren't opposed to streaming. |

Yeah we know, but it's hard to believe it took almost like 5 years for Ghibli to allow their feature-length animated films to be release on streaming in Japan while the US, and elsewhere already did it. As I said, Japan is slow on adopting newer technology despite whatever stereotype we used to had about Japan and technology. |
