Well deserved Solo Leveling is one of best anime of all time. One of the most gripping stories I've encountered and Jin-woo is just the cutest and most well developed character. I've haven't been this invested in a series since like Naofuni or Kirito in Isekai, game world anime.

Ninja Kamui won anything? It’s hard to take the Crunchyroll Awards seriously.

Solo Leveling was such an eye opening anime, all episodes are so packed and well written, they went by as quick as lightning, and it's not even a short form series. My eyes were literally attached to the screen throughout, how can I not with all those hot characters (truth). Cannot wait for this anime of the year material to keep solo-leveling-up amongst all other mid titles next season.

I don’t see a single category here where Solo Leveling deserved the win. Crunchyroll Awards out here being a bigger joke than usual.

As usual Crunchyroll’s anime awards are a joke to never be taken seriously. It’s nothing more than a popularity contest with no substance. Solo Leveling is far away from ever being the greatest anime of all time. People only think it is because they haven’t expanded their horizons very far. Next year something else will claim the title. Especially since Solo Leveling will not be returning for a third season*.

*As of current writing. You never know when the production committee might decide to reverse their decision and green light a third season.

I'm sorry, but are there bots in this thread astroturfing for Solo Shitness, or are people just taking a piss at it? It's genuinely impossible to tell these days.

Honestly, the only one I take issue with is Kamakura Style not winning best ending. How does that even happen?

So this was the ninth installment of the CR Awards and there is still much to criticize.
I already did this on another website but I will do it here as well.

First off, congratulations to all the winning titles. So, the typical shows won almost every main category (except for Frieren which was kind of surprising to me, positively spoken).

I haven't seen Ninja Kamui, so I am unable to say anything about this show, but in my opinion Girls Band Cry had deserved more than just one nomination. This show was the most-positive surprise for me in 2024 anime year, despite the animation which took three episodes to get used to.

Then, there was BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! which was a strong show in my opinion as well. This series got ignored completely (or it was ineligible for nomination due to the streaming period, I don't know).

In general music-themed anime series were ignored completely (not least due to a missing a Best Music Anime category). The decision to include a Best Isekai category and get rid of the Best Fantasy for regular fantasy-themed anime is unexplainable to me. The Must-Protect-at-Cost category should be renamed in Anya Forger Dedication Award (how often did she win this category since implementation?).

Then, the fan votes are most-likely the crucial point for a show to receive an award is something which bugs me as the shows with the biggest fanbase will most-likely snatch a prize. This could be changed if:
a) the weighing of jury votes would be increased and the fan votes weighing decreased
b) the daily voting system will be abolished so everyone is allowed to vote ONCE
c) the CR Awards would award a Jury Prize and a Public Prize in each category.

I voted as well and it annoyed me the most that I had to vote in all categories to get my ballot counted. There were two categories (Best Movie and Best Voice Acting [DE]) where I did not want to cast a vote as none of the nominees catched my interested but I was forced to vote in these categories as well as otherwise I would not have been able to cast my votes.

About the nominees: I had the feeling that at least 90% of the nominated works were titles that ran on Crunchyroll. There were a lot of series which were not licensed by CR but should have been at least recognized for a nomination in the main categories and not just in the subcategories.
As for categories like Best Character Design, Best Animation or Best Background Art only the name of works (and maybe the studios) were named but not the persons behind it. This feels not fair.
As for the nominees selection: I know that this is done by a Jury. So there is a question if they take other titles into consideration for being nominated if those are not airing on Crunchyroll or if they are ignored completely.

Last but not least: As long as Crunchyroll is the namesake of this ceremony the award will always be considered as another show for marketing and self-congratulation for the company itself. And as long as it stays this way, titles which were not aired on CR will always be ignored while the typical titles will snatch one prize after another.

My conclusion: There is still a lot to criticize about the CR Awards but I fear that nothing much will change in the near future.

Having jury voted awards where most of the jury been the press representatives of the typical mainstream media and entertainment websites, who are voting for nothing but the "most heard" thing on the internet and so out of touch from the culture to even watch most of shows represented in nominations, is a mistake.

Heck, at this point even AI bot that is scrapping the social media can do better job of actual recognition rewards than that type of crowd.

Best action is fair for it to win. I don't think any anime had better fight scenes during the year from what I saw.

Ninja Kamui winning anything is how you know this awards show shouldn't be taken seriously.

I haven't seen solo leveling but from what I heard it's just a generic web-toon adaption that's extremely popular for some reason, but as said, I haven't seen it myself.

I do find these awards odd considering how much more involved crunchyroll is in making anime these day. It's like if the Oscars were run by Warner Brothers. There's very clear incentive there to boost your own shows.

Yuuki Aoi won for Maomao. That's at least something we can all get behind
