Uh, OK. I didn't expect to see Marvel Comics titles to be appearing on WEBTOON. Am I expecting in the future that WEBTOON and DC Comics will be teaming up to have DC titles on WEBTOON other than the Batman Wayne Family webtoon on there.

If DC has a brain, they should be formatting the Absolute series(especially Wonder woman since it has major anime influences) due to them actually requiring no previous knowledge at all. Perfect for new fans who barely know the characters. Plus the Absolute series has been some of the best stuff they've made in years.

I'm happy this is happening but WHY did they ahve to start with teh absolute worst run of Spider-Man in recent times?
They are practically shooting themselves in the foot here by doing that. I'd rather have chosen Ultimate Spider-Man or even the current Miles Morales run over that one as a way to entice readers instead.
Hopefully the other options are good and if it succeeds then we can get exclusive stuff like DC does with Wayne Family Adventures.

Whoa, take it easy there. I'm sure they'll add Absolute Universe on there in the future assuming that we will get an announcement. But one more thing I want to remind you, they haven't made any of the Absolute Universe available to borrow at the library. Hell, my local library has already put an order for Absolute Batman vol.1 , Absolute Superman, and Absolute Wonder Woman. The only way you can read Absolute Batman online is on Hoopla (and yes, I'm currently reading it on Hoopla as of this post). So give it time and I'm sure Absolute Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman will be made available. But I'm sure they'll find it's way into Hoopla before appearing on WEBTOON.
Speaking of Wonder Woman and anime, I looked around and it looks like you're right. Absolute Wonder Woman seem to be influenced by Berserk, which is quite an unexpected to see. Thank you for telling me of this.

Ultimate Spider-Man ended a long time ago. And if I remember correctly they actually destroyed that whole universe in the end. It doesn't make sense to promote an obsolete or dead series. Like it or not comic companies care more about pushing the current series and canon than anything else.

I'm talking about the current run set in a new universe where Peter is married to MJ, has children with her and didn't become Spider-Man until after all that. Not the original 2000s run where he was teenager the whole time.

What most American Spider-Man fans may hate other fans may not.

I feel like Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane would fit the Webtoon audience far better than the Zeb Wells Spider-Man run.

I liked the original Runaways run by Brian K Vaughan myself. I think that was the last Marvel comic I read. I haven't really kept up with comics since House of M gutted everything. I do enjoy all the memes about how Spider-Man's greatest adversary is a random dude named Paul for cucking him. That's just been really funny to see posted in places.
Reformatting comics for vertical format sounds awful though.

Spider-Man and any other comic book character means something different to everyone. Even the writers at Marvel responsible for One My Day do that because they thought Spider-Man being married was boring. Some think adult Spider-Man is bad in general and should always be a teenager. Some thing teenager Spider-Man is cringy and bad. You can't please everyone. Comics ultimately mean nothing and are not worth getting worked up over. The idea that any writer or artist can come in and make everything you know null and void makes them so volatile and pointless to get invested in. At best you can find one run you like and treat that as your defacto version of a character. Just don't expect it to stick around forever or for other people to agree with you especially other generations who grew up with different versions of the character. Most kids today only now Spider-Man as Tom Holland or Mile Morales' friend.

I’m a Spider-Man fan and haven’t hated the books on the basis of them ending Peter’s marriage to Mary Jane. Especially when almost every thing adapted outside of the comics have paired them together prior to and even after One More Day to the point of redundancy usually at the expense of writing out Gwen Stacy or ignoring the fact that she and Peter had a relationship long before he got together with Mary Jane.

This isn’t anymore problematic than a work that’s done by one artist and one writer. As those works can start off fine then spiral well before the endgame. There’s also the problem of what happens if the writer gets arrested for a crime as has happened with some Japanese Manga Writers or passes away while the work is still ongoing.

I know the vertical-scrolling format is probably fine with a lot of people given how big webtoons have become, but having tried one or two things myself I could not think of a more infuriating way to consume a comic book. That aside, the fact that they're converting works with deliberately laid-out pages into an endless scroll almost feels like the comics equivalent of cropping older 4:3 content to fit a 16:9 screen. Granted, at least in this case you're not losing part of the visuals, but it's still not the way in which the work was intended to be consumed.

Are you seriously saying the off-chance that a mangaka might die before fishing their work is just as much of a detriment to storytelling as comics being official fan-fiction where hundreds of people take turns with characters?

No.
I’m saying it’s worse. While having a bad writer and or a bad artist taking over a long running comic book can suck at least those runs are temporary. And a better writer and artist can come in and improve upon the work provided the editors don’t get weird or the books sales don’t decline enough leading to a cancellation.
As we’ve seen with a few mangas if the orignal writer passes away while the work is still being published and doesn’t expressly give their blessing before hand to keep the work ongoing. That’s an unfinished work same consequence if the writer screws up and does something legally irresponsible.
And that’s not something you want to happen especially with a serialized ongoing work that’s been in print for years.
