I hope the fact they split this in two parts means Mappa will be more sensible with the production schedule.

I mean...they kinda did that with season 2, and look what happened. But I take you point, breaking this arc up may help.

Egh... I guess I'll give it one final shot, since I like Yuuta well enough but man... season 2 really soured me on this show's plot. and after season 2 spoiler[Nobara, the funny volcano guy and the evil Nobunaga Shimazaki guy] are dead. All my faves!

I was actually wondering if this thing was going to come out to begin with.

Season 2 was a masterclass in wasted potential that made me lose any interest I had in the IP and even fans of the thing claim the series peaked there, so I am debating into watching it out of morvois curiosity.

As a side note, I will never understand people who claim it had bad animation, animation wise the thing was... "peak" as youngsters nowadays say, my only conclusion is that fans were coping about the questionable plot by redirecting the blame on why they weren't fully liking the series.

While S2 overall had great animation, its highs were high but the lows were very low too. Some sequences were straight up broken due to the horrendous schedule, episodes like #08 were melting and super janky.

Oh hell yes, we are so back. We are ready for this. WE ARE THE SPECIALZ.

(Just please treat your animators better this time, Mappa. You don't want them to die from some bad clams and end up in a fantasy world.)

The animation was fantastic for the most part. It did get weird in certain episodes, there were some where it was clear they had run short on production time. But frankly, I think fans focused on those episodes way too much, when the large majority of the season looked better than any other TV anime produced that year. Even the weaker episodes showed a clear intention to elevate the material by going as hard with the animation as possible. It would be admirable if it hadn't been for the terrible working conditions the animators suffered. I hope the long delay between seasons means they've had a long time to make episodes in advance so they won't have to endure nonstop crunch this time.

As to the story, I personally quite liked it, for the most part. Honestly I thought it was fascinating how some corners of the internet raved about season 2 being genius while others condemned it for being a complete misfire, and the consensus in one direction or the other seemed very strong depending on what platform you were posting on.

They fixed some of the animation issues on the bluray and even added extra new scenes for the mahoraga/sukuna fight that took it to another level. Shibuya arc was peak battle shonen for me. Culling game is much slower, I hope they can elevate it with the anime.

I mean those newly added scenes in the BD version are technically not new since they were in the storyboard, the episode just aired unfinished as confirmed by the staff. Some of the pans where nothing happened or questionable jump cuts made it obvious.

I got impatient and binged the manga over the summer.

I wish I didn't, but I did.

In the story/character department, Season 1 was undoubtedly better, as Season 2 was one big fight largely taking place overnight, but it's initial prequel arc was great.

I still enjoyed the heck out of Season 2.

Now having read the manga, I'll say that Season 3 is closer to Season 2 than 1, though it takes place over a longer period of time and therefore has room for more story and character development. But it is still essentially one ongoing battle royale, and there will be many more new characters introduced; arguably at the expense of other established favorites being sidelined. But I will say that Yuta fans will be very happy with this season; it's what y'all have been waiting for!

Overall, if you enjoyed Season 2, you will certainly love this. If Mappa still brings the goods, you'll have plenty of action, match-ups, badass spectacle, Domain Tug-off-wars, UNO Reverse Card battle tactics and some simply outrageous powers, lore and revelations to enjoy.

For anyone else feeling soured by Season 2, maybe you'll like this one better, but not by much...

If they end where I think they end...

spoiler[Releasing Gojo and cliff-hangering us with him standing before Geto and maybe Sukuna dropping in...]

... then Season 4 (Final) will be perceived as the "worst" season as it's essentially like Season 2, but one big long drawn out single fight against the final boss, and you all obviously know who that is going to be.

If there's any big criticisms that I hope the anime finds a way to fix, it's the copious amounts or narrative exposition having to explain wtf is going on in certain fights for the audience, S4 literally has commentary.

Also maybe they work with Gege for some new anime -original character moments and development that goes a bit further than the manga to make fans happy. If new content and rewritten stuff can be done for Bleach's final seasons, I don't see why JJK can't. But even if they don't, I personally will be satisfied with what the manga has.

If they adapt the final arc, I hope MAPPA makes some changes like giving the main cast some personality rather than just analyze the final villain for 7 volumes. It felt like the author wanted to heavily glaze the villain. The ending also felt kinda rushed with who appears for only the last five chapters.

Maybe don't spoil the series for a thread that's literally promoting the anime which is no where near ending?

Doubt it, the series Achilles' heel is it's extremely weak cast, you would literally need to whole new 25 episodes filler arc to develop it into proper characters instead of just functions and nowadays anime refuse to make filler.

Yosuke Yajima and Hiromi Niwa return to design the characters.

Actually, they're replacing Tadashi Hiramatsu and Sayaka Koiso, who were the character designers for the second season. Yajima and Niwa worked as animation directors on the previous seasons, and now that they got promoted to character designers, I can tell from the trailer that the show's art style is now hewing closer to Akutami's, which may be a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about his art.

The animation in the trailer already looks super impressive.

IMO, for a third season a show, you should already know if you’re in or not. No need to keep watching if you’re already convinced you won’t like it.
