Quite the exciting start to the second cour. Yes, Stanley and his group chasing the gang means more conflict in the future and the rest of the group being held captive holds potential too but I am most invested in finally getting more details on Why Man. With Xeno and Senku working together we are finally progressing the big mystery.

Four episodes in and the new season/cour is exciting. I have to compliment the show on still managing to feel fresh and to introduce new quirky characters (both Chelsea and Joel fit well with the others). The sending over of the fax sure was something. Meanwhile dr Xeno seems to enjoy being a captive.

That was a remarkably accurate map of north central CA (as it exists today). It looks to me like they even got that massive mining operation over near Ione on there. Big ol' white spot visible from space, though it's barely a dot on Senku's map.

Actually, it appears the Rodex Corp is in my back yard. They're so quiet I didn't even notice them back there. Very Happy

Episode 6 was a really satisfying one. It seems to confirm that Why Man is an alien or rather alien force given the sheer number of weapons used. Given the nature of the Medusa tech it makes sense for the opponents to not be human, that is unless some super evil scientist is hidden away on the moon, aliens honestly seem more believable. The gang using science and figurining things out without a scientist was a great moment too, it showed that science can be done by everyone and that they have learned watching Senku.

Ep 8

Well. Hmm. Suika's actions would've been sorta ok, and certainly in character, if she'd only run away as soon as she slapped on the nitro patch. She is, after all, the best at hiding.

That said, I don't think there are spiders so venomous that they fell you faster than a tranq dart (yes, funnel webs and banana spiders can deliver fatal bites, but not that fast), but if such existed, I don't think a patch would save you. I suppose Brazilian banana spiders could have evolved over 4000 years to become more harmful to humans, but I don't see any evolutionary pressure to do so in evidence.

But I think they subverted their noble sacrifice deal by having Tsukasa giving away the likely resolution, if you hadn't already thought of it. Now, they just have to reverse their plan to wait for the attack and petrify everyone but Suika and Francois, and hurry up with the Medusas and petrify them before they get to the fort. Otherwise, they've now got no one to revive them who's still outside the range.

To be fair, given that the opposition has guns and a large number of trained soldiers the science gang only had one way to win from the very start. The real question is how big the fallout will be from using the petrifying strategy and how long it will take for the survivors to free the others.

While I am sure that nobody will actually die and that the petrification recovery will fix everything it was something else to see most of the science kingdom get gunned down like that. They really did not shy away from making clear that everybody is either near death or already dead.

Episode 9

Yeah, I'm not having fun with these shootings. I know the effects of them will all be undone but it doesn't make watching it any more enjoyable. To be frank, this whole arc has been kind of dopey starting with the notion that Stanley is this implacable force that is chasing the Young Science Team. What, he has no worries they wouldn't harm Dr. Xeno in some way? There's no way Dr. Stone could convince Xeno to curb his attack dog? Really? Still find things to enjoy but I'm starting to experience the law of diminishing returns with this one.

I agree with the diminishing returns and I think it is mainly due to the Xeno/Stanley conflict taking over two lengthy arcs and thus seasons to finish. The two seasons/arcs before were also about visiting a new location and having to deal with a new enemy force. If I am brutally honest then I have to admit that the first season remains the best for me by far. Something about building up the town while slowly teching up was amazing. The show being more about conflict lowered it for me.

I will watch until the very end and most episodes are still good to great though.

While I have issues with the arc and am glad that it is (mostly) over they made the finish quite exciting. The Science Kingdom has won but it is hard to call it a victory for anyone right now (just getting everyone unpetrified is going to be a pain). I assume that Suika will eventually get Senku back in action to jumpstart things but that is likely not going to be easy. What comes after is hopefully Why Man/going into space.

Now that sure was a hard hitting episode. Seeing Suika make the revival fluid all by herself with plenty of failures along the way was a pretty emotional watch at times. It was also a very effective showcase of how far she has come and how much she has learned from the others. It took 7 long years but with Senku back in action things should go a bit faster.

Despite already knowing how this arc turns out, I still wound up shedding tears of joy when Suika finally succeeds in freeing Senku from his petrification and is reunited with him.

That sure was a very effective finale to get you excited about the final conflict and the road that has to be taken to get there. The gang have a lot they need to do. There is reviving all the petrified people and then there is collecting the materials and people needed to get into space. Once there Why Man needs to be dealt with and that will depend on what it actually is.

The season as a whole I liked but the Xeno/Stanley conflict did start to drag for me at some point. To be honest, the series as a whole is starting to slowly get me less enthused.

Season 3, Episode 12 (Finale)

Yeah, I agree this franchise is losing some of its lustre for me, but still worth watching, imo. I'm giving it a 7/10. I'm kind of excited for going to the Moon. See ya in 2026!

Head's up for all you Dr. Stone fans out there: Crunchyroll is airing a special "behind the scenes" episode currently, obviously in preparation for the next instalment starting on April 2. You can find it at S100 E-EX - Behind the Scenes of Dr. STONE. I already had a rough layman's understanding of the animation process, but it was still interesting to me.
