Very overdue for a BD release. Great to see.
Now I just pray this comes to the UK too!

Every once and awhile I think Azumanga Daioh should get a remake but then I remember they pretty much included everything in the manga except 3-5 koma panels were Chiyo and Osaka get a summer job at W(M)c'D's. It's pretty much perfect and the one anime I can watch anytime as my comfort watch. The mere fact I don't own it on disc is a crime. The only fault I found was with the dub they didn't do subs for the Japanese writing, at least when I streamed or watch it on VoD.

One of my favourite anime comedies of all time, but I don't feel the need to double dip. Now if Kiyohiko Azuma would only let somebody adapt Yotsuba&!

Does it also includes the OVA (web show) and a mini-movie as well?

Yes so much this! That or more chapters for a 16th volume. We need more of Yotsuba&! in our life!

Now I can have 2 copies! I still have the original DVD set from 20 years ago. Honestly, I think the anime itself is perfect and I don't want a remake. I think the way it is now, it still holds up. I also like how the series feels like a time capsule of what life (and humor) was like in the 2000s. It's definitely a slice-of-life that I'd recommend to any budding anime fan.

I'm probably one of the few who doesn't want an anime of Yotsuba&. It's one of those manga that I think works because of how Azuma puts so much detail and whimsiness into his art. I also attribute the manga's appeal to its more low-key pacing. Not that I would hate it if an anime was ever green lit. Just that I don't think a Yotsuba& anime can capture the same feeling without the right studio (like Cloverworks or KyoAni) and loooot of work.

No, just the TV series. However, the Japanese BD from 2016 didn't include those, either. The web anime would almost certainly be its own completely separate license, since it came first. Hell, ADV never released it back in the day, either.

Meanwhile the mini-movie wasn't included in the last DVD release from Sentai back in 2016, so it's possible that the Japanese licensor sees no reason to include it, even in Japan, since it's really just a teaser made to promote the TV anime, anyway.

It was great to see this announced. I'll double dip if I hear good things about this release.
Hopefully ANN can review it when it comes out Smile

Definitely interested in that Azumanga Daioh Blu-ray, never watched but happy to purchase and finally check it out. Tho admittedly I’m kinda more hyped about the Trinity Seven rerelease just because I got the DVD back in the day and have been wanting to upgrade for a bit. Also hope maybe if I buy the Blu-ray it’ll help convince Sentai to dub the two movies (assuming it’s possible for them of course)

I have to agree. While there might be some advantages to a new adaptation, it likely wouldn't have those washed out watercolour backgrounds and simple animation that gives it that cosy feel.

And even if Sentai dubbed it, it still wouldn't have even half the same cast as the original.

No need for a remake. They got it right the first time. All that was missing was a few brief scenes that can be overlooked easily. That plus the extra chapters the mangaka released well after the manga and anime were concluded but never released in English (mostly the second half of the third year beach episode). But, again, unnecessary.

Now, a remaster? That i can deal. Maybe find a way to get it from 4:3 to 16:9 any chance? No? Probably not. One can dream.

Yeah, Azumanga's one of those shows I really don't see any point in remaking. There's stuff the adaptation changed or left out and some content original to it, but for the most part it very much captures the soul of the manga and I don't really see how a new adaptation could be more than at best a pointless retread.

A Yotsuba&! adaptation would probably have a lot more meat on it, but doesn't seem like that's ever going to happen.

I purged most of my DVDs with any kind of HD version out there (even if not available in the US) a while ago, and Azumanga was one of them.
I've been wanting to replace my disks, so I'll be getting this.

I have the original Artbox release and all the pins that came out with each volume. I have the NewType USA Poster on my wall. I have a Sakaki UFO Plushie on my shelf. The series is in my top-5 all-time favorite series. Am I going to get a Blu-Ray of one of my favorite series? You bet your sweet bippy I am!
