Congratulation to KPop Demon Hunters for the Thanksgiving Parade honor. Also, sad to hear about it facing some controversy in the UK.

Boy I would not have expected KPop Demon Hunters of all things of starting a new Satanic Panic.

Well it's got demon in the title which is quite surprising to see for something aimed at kids in the west. I'm used to that word being censored in the west. Final Fantasy (fiends), Gash Bell (momodos), Yu-Gi-Oh (fiends, again) |

Literally the highest selling anime breaking records in the west is called Demon Slayer. What are you talking about? Not to mention all the fantasy settings (isekai or not) with demons and even a demon lord (some of then protagonists, even like Anos Voldigoad). |

Perhaps not that surprising in the context that KPDH has a core message of overcoming one's shame and negative self-image to live a more honest and healthy life, whereas (speaking as a nonpracticing Catholic) Christianity is very much about making you feel shame and guilt over every little thing to keep you obedient. |

some context as someone who went to a Church of England primary school..
they don’t just have Anglican kids. I went to school with several Quakers, Plymouth Brethren and Jehovahs Witnesses, even a few Muslims. Church schools are seen as somewhat selective, smaller classroom sizes, you get the idea. (Basically, like going to a private prep school but your parents don’t have to pay any money. They just have to be active in an Abrahamic faith.) I imagine this complaint against KPDH was one or two parents complaining, but it could just be someone from a stricter Christian household than your standard Church of England believer. |

"Demon Slayer" is categorized as an adult graphic novel in the US and not aimed at kids. At least that's where they put it on the monthly book listings. I assume most light novels are as well. |

And how the hell did Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba not caused an uproar in the UK religious school (yeah, I know the anime is not aimed at school children, but still) when there's actual demon, the title has "demon" in there and yet KPop Demon Hunters is singled out while Demon Slayer is not? I think there's anti-Asian specifically anti-Korean racism motive for the reason why KPop Demon Hunters was targeted, but not Demon Slayer. |

Demon Slayer's U.S. manga publisher rated it for teens: https://www.viz.com/manga-books/manga/demon-slayer-kimetsu-no-yaiba-volume-1/product/5547 |

You are aware K-Pop Demon Hunters isn't actually Korean, right? It's an American production. Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer is actually Japanese. To imply there's an anti-Asian bias here makes no sense unless the roles were reversed if the series actually made in an Asian country isn't the one being targeted.
"Zatch Bell" was definitely aimed at kids in the west. That's why they censored all the stuff in the English version of the manga and anime like all the blood, guns, nudity, breasts demons, and stuff. It's why they changed the name to Zatch Bell in the first place since "Gash" is a rude word |

Some sectors of Christianity do sadly focus on shame and guilt, though Christ's messages are more about loving others, even in spite of what they do to you, humility, forgiveness and second chances. You can argue that there are some aspects of repressing yourself (especially since many think that's how being humble works,) but that'd be more on par with Rumi not stealing the souls of others (as demon instincts would be inclined to do) rather than not accepting the fact that it's not a bad thing that she's part demon. Something that's interesting to note, and that Kpop Demon Hunters teaches really well is that denying and not being able to able accept certain sides of yourself can leave you weaker to it, though accepting that that side exists and isn't something to hate isn't quite the same as giving into what that side might encourage (like you should accept it if you have a violent side so you can direct that energy in healthy ways and become stronger for it, but you shouldn't just dive in to being violent just because you have that side, much like how Rumi used her demon side to strengthen her singing and demon fighting powers rather than becoming a demon.) Finding strength in the parts of ourselves we think to be weaknesses is also a part of Christ's message when you really dig into it, though sadly it's not something that a lot of followers of Christ tend to display since, as you mentioned, many tend to focus more on shame and guilt. (Note, didn't come her to say you're wrong, cause you are right that that is the focus of many, just wanted to set the record straight about Christ's teachings since I think there's a lot of misinformation and misinterpretation nowadays.) I think you're right about it being a Karen parent, the second response reads like they've had a handful of parents, the types that can't accept that anyone would think differently from them, complained and the school is just trying to keep the peace (though the first response could be because they were fed bad information about the movie's themes initially.) I think another big factor in why Golden tends to be the go to for the movie is because it was the song that had the most presence in a positive way, whereas Soda Pop was the villains' song and Takedown was divisive for Rumi, though "This is what it sounds like" sticks out for me as the final fight song. |
