Ah yes, the CCP is upset again because they want to invade Taiwan and are probably busy harassing fishermen in the West Philippine Sea. They seem to think the entire sea belongs to them. Your neighbors will not support your greedy nine-dash line, and China seems confused about why countries are upgrading and expanding their militaries. South Korea is developing nuclear submarines, and Japan will probably follow. It’s your fault, China! Because of your greed, you’re forcing your Asian neighbors to spend billions on military buildup. Do you really think Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan will support your greedy nine-dash line? Good luck.
Edit: Allegations of forced organ harvesting by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have been widely reported and condemned by international human rights organizations, lawmakers, and medical experts. The practice is said to target prisoners of conscience, particularly Falun Gong practitioners, as well as Uyghurs, Tibetans, and other religious and ethnic minorities. So yes, the CCP is trying to hide this, and it’s disgusting. |

Treating Japan as the villain is a vital CCP strategy for keeping the populace compliant, so their reaction is no surprise.
Interesting that during these tensions China have at no point denied that they would invade Taiwan... |

Yeah, I've been reading about this since yesterday. I know South Korea is not involve in this, but if South Korea is to take side with Taiwan and Japan, I wonder if this will lead to another K-pop ban in China, I mean the Chinese mainland has "banned" K-pop for almost a decade due to the deployment of THADD on South Korean soil back in 2016. Also, I'm very concern given the way that Trump pardoned an FBI agent who was convicted for spying for the Chinese regime, I'm also scared that given the way Chinese government has targeted LGBTQ and Danmei/BL content, I don't want to see that becoming the GOP/the right's new culture war given the way Twitter/X are now flooded with foreign bots including Chinese/Mainland China in this age of anti-LGBTQ and transphobic sentiment in the US. I don't want to see Danmei and BL content being targeted in the US thanks to foreign bots on social media which could lead and crossover to yaoi manga/anime and including live-action BL K-dramas.
That's a good reason to be concern if you're an anime/manga fans that are also part of the LGBTQ communities. |

I really have to wonder how this will effect the current popularity of the Ranma 1/2 remake right now, since it features and even borrows from a lot of Chinese visuals, iconography, locations, and entire characters like Shampoo, Mousse, and Cologne.... not that these characters and usage of the constant cultural depiction of China in Ranma 1/2 was always great to begin with.
I know the term cultural appropriation gets thrown around a lot, but Ranma 1/2 has always DEEPLY engaged in it. Everything from the old and even the new openings of Ranma 1/2 are covered in Chinese iconography even having all the Japanese characters like Ranma, and Akane be depiected in Chinese outfits, and even constant flashbacks to China, even showing characters like the Jusenkyo Guide engaging in activites like picking up animals and cooking them (like he attempted to do to Ryoga's pig form, withing knowing it was a guy.), and Shampoo's stereotypical... everything. Even Wednesday Campnella's live action MV of the current Ranma theme song is filled with more chinese stereotyping than 1980's Dragon Ball. I mean if Japan is taking such a hard stance against glorifying China, then what are they gonna do when the current Ranma 1/2 remake has been going full "I Love China Everything About It Is So Cool" gear? |

I don't think the political tension will affect Ranma 1/2's production in anyway, so I don't expect MAPPA to end up "whitewashing" all the Chinese aspect of the characters like Shampoo, Mousse, & etc... Doing any form of "whitewashing"/cultural changes aka removing any Chinese from Ranma would feel awkward and will not look anything like the manga or the 1st anime TV series from the 90's. |

Even putting aside the full history of the tensions between China and Taiwan, to say nothing of the widespread disapproval within Japan regarding re-militarization, this is blatant saber-rattling by Takaichi, who has already proven to be even worse than many expected her to be. Also, I would take such allegations with a heap of salt; China's far from a paragon, but there are vested interests at play when it comes to claims like that.
It's important to remember that Japan has admired China for most of its history; Japanese nobles were expected be at least literate in Chinese, and classic fiction like Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin are as highly regarded there as they are in their country of origin. I'm not sure if that tapered off in the Taisho and Showa eras, but even if it did, there was definitely a resurgence in the years after their defeat in the second world war, which Ranma 1/2 would be one example of, even with Takahashi's reliance on stereotypes. Plus, there's always been a difference between the political situation and entertainment. Just look at how South Korea has every reason to detest Japan, yet many of its citizens love its pop culture, or how Japan itself has plenty of reason to hate the US yet loves our pop culture. By the same token, Takaichi and the LDP can play on fears of modern China all they like, but enough Japanese citizens are fond of ancient China and even parts of post-revolution China's history that it won't affect their enjoyment of anything to do with those. |

They're not. China is the one banning Japanese culture and artists. Japan isn't doing this to China.
Widespread disapproval? Takaichi's approval rating is currently 75% and her statements about Taiwan are also approved by the majority according to polls. Source: https://x.com/nikkei/status/1995293427106218027 Pretty sure this is the highest approval rating for a prime minister’s first opinion poll since Masayoshi Ohira in 1978. |

I said there's disapproval of re-militarizing, not of Takaichi specifically. Also, if you're gonna use a source, at least have one that isn't behind a paywall. |

Already someone wrote a commentary on observing the anti-war protests and noted that it's just 1,000 who showed up. This is in contract to Abe back in 2015 after he passed legislation to allow the JSDF to be deployed overseas. I recall hearing that the Russian invasion of Ukraine put some damper on those numbers. I'm of the opinion that Japanese national security had to change sooner or later from the Cold War. ---- https://english.kyodonews.net/articles/-/64988 Kyodo did a poll after Takaichi made her Taiwan comments in the Diet. "60.4 percent favored an increase in defense spending to bolster Japan's defense capabilities, while 48.8 percent supported the exercise of its right to collective self-defense in the event of a Taiwan contingency." |
