Looks good from what little we get to see, but that's generally not modern Ghost in the Shell's problem (well, maybe it was SAC_2045's problem). All the neat retro aesthetics won't matter if you can't get a script to match, though at least guy who wrote boring Godzilla anime is a step up from Tow Ubukata

You should try and watch the series before you judge it too harshly. |

The manga Major is a noticeably different character from the movie/SAC one, so getting that across oughta be interesting.

After The Ghost in the Shell and The One Piece, I hope there's an announcement for a new anime remake called The Soul Eater, preferably with the same art style/studio and Japanese/English voice cast from the original 2008-2009 series.
Looking forward to watching both new Science Saru anime series this summer. |

Not sure what to make of that really - I'm not a fan of the character designs nor the music but if the scripts are good then I'll live with them. I can't imagine it can be worse than 2045 and hope it's better than Arise.

This is adapting the original manga and its intented to be faithful to it along with the original art. The manga has a different tone than all the adaptations; it has that quirky/fun tone, and Major is completely different. This will be the first time we get to see manga-accurate GITS. Read the manga to know what to expect |

Hummm was mildly interested in this, but that new poster is working overtime to kill that. The trailer thankfully help counter some of that.
While that's undoubtedly true, I'm still not sure that's something you'd actually want to do... The impression I got from the manga reception is that it was a modest hit, and that the movie vastly eclipsed it in popularity and resonance. ie, I feel like modern GiTS popularity own far far more to Oshii than Shirow. I guess going back to original work is maybe a way to get out of the... creatively bankrupt place that most modern GiTS adaptation suffer from. But, with the rise of "modern" AI starting irl, I feel like it would be more interesting to take the franchise in a different direction altogether rather than retreading old ground. |

I've been screaming internally since seeing the trailer drop yesterday, it's looking so good, and I cannot wait for July.
Pedantically, they've used a leading The numerous times across releases for decades (see: a bit of my collection, with it only really being omitted on the anime side and in Dark Horse's releases. |

All I ask for the new Ghost in the Shell anime is to have a solid script throughout the series, alongside solid casting choices for the characters (Japanese and dubbed voice actors). You can have a nice visual art style all you want, but you need to have the script and casting to back it up. I've got the manga on my Nook so I'm going to be making quite a bit of comparisons.

I'm not judging it at all, where in my post did I say anything about this show's quality?
People keep saying this, and yes there are shots here that look to be from the manga, but there's no reason for them to get an award-winning author with next to no experience in anime screenwriting if they were going to do a 1:1 adaptation of Shirow Masamune |

while it looks better than the netflix one...its still lesser appealing than SAC was.
Hoping the story will carry that difference though. |

I can dig the art style if SARU goes all out on the visual gimmicks, and especially if this adaptation leans more into the humor and major sexiness!
Also, while this is billed as being more faithful to the manga, I wouldn't rule out lots of original episodic material which can easily be slotted in with some rewrites.
You will get THE BATMAN 2 and you will like it. But if Japan switched to German, they could've called it Die Geist in die Schale, which would be pretty metal! |

Keeping my expectations in check. Everything after SAC has been a mixed bag to say the least. Looks great visually for sure, gotta have a good story to make it worthwhile though.

Visuals look great! They really do look like a slightly modernised version of the Shirow's original style.
Plus with staff who worked on Dandadan, Little Witch Academia and Space Dandy, this should be goofy fun but serious when it needs to be.
I know he wrote some episodes of Space Dandy, so I'd like to hope he wouldn't make this boring even though I know he likes quite a bit exposition. |
