Wow, I had no idea this was ending. I hope she’s able to stick the landing and we get some more anime seasons soon!

Likewise, I really enjoyed the recent adaptations and hope we get a full series in the near future. |

Why I had to register to say it. Anyway this is not true. Pretty much parroting misinformation from twitter. Kato said she is working on last episode not chapter probably it is either about the end of current arc or that next one will be finale. Of One Cloth arc isn't even ending in next chapter because 166 just started three way fight. That arc is ending in few chapters but is not a finale. Mangaka non stop mentions that it isn't because it feels like ending and we still have some more. Probably next arc will be finale but nothing got officially announced.
And this is a problem, why ANN is taking "news" from twitter and not official source? Jump SQ said nothing yet beside information of hiatus when we will get to finale arc they will say it especially for one of their big manga. WSJ sub on reddit didn't make news about it because of that. Anyway yes Blue Exorcist is heading closer and closer to its finish but there is stil at least one more arc after Of One Cloth. She’s preparing for the final chapter of the ARC! Not the manga. This is not good journalism, or reporting when all you do is repeat a lie you read on Twitter.

Katō said she is preparing for the final chapter. The Japanese term for a manga chapter is 話, which happens to be the same term used for an anime episode. That is why using a machine translation out of context often gets you the incorrect word, such as "episode" instead of "chapter." She also did not say that the next chapter will be the finale. Other manga creators have similarly said that they have gone on hiatus to prepare for a final chapter, but does not mean the final chapter is the next one. animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-08-17/hokkaido-gals-are-super-adorable-manga-goes-on-hiatus-until-september-13/.201311 animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-12-28/world-end-harem-fantasia-manga-goes-on-break-before-final-chapter/.205993 animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-01-26/chikage-yuniwa-battery-manga-goes-on-hiatus/.181913

If you chose chapter as translation you are making it into "manga will end next chapter" misinformation that spread all over twitter. So maybe just maybe translate it the way that it shows its meaning( because now you do a literal translation when funny enough episode/part would work better ) or at least explain it is not the end? Most of your examples as well didn't went big "FINAL CHAPTER" in title making it into we are getting finale. So misinformation.
It's not. If it was you would mention stuff like that there will be articles in every issue or that we have event in april. This is just twitter's big "news". |

1) Neither "episode" nor "part" is the literal or accurate translation for 話 in the context of manga. 2) A machine translation is not necessarily a literal or accurate translation. 3) As noted above, neither Katō nor ANN said the "manga will end next chapter." |

I will do it for you. Just write "working on last part of current arc" even "last chapter/chapters of current arc" is better. Or you know you could wait till we will have official saying what exactly Kato meant? Japanese fans have read it mostly as last arc coming from what I saw so even what we think can be wrong. And again why not to add everything Kato announced? It would make it into full article and not hot parts from twitter. Again it's not what you meant to write it is how people read it. And you can see effect just fine by reactions here on forum from people outside fandom. |

Katō did not say "working on last part of current arc" or "last chapter/chapters of current arc." She did not say "current arc" at all. That is reinterpreting what she said, into something she did not say.
As noted, Katō is her own source.
In this first half of this forum thread, we have people correctly understanding that Katō is preparing for the final chapter, and not reintepreting what she said into what she didn't say. |

She used the words 最終話 that is the literal industry standard term used for a manga's finale. She did not say anything about this arc or the next one, and honestly she doesn't need to? This is extremely standard practice, a lot of mangaka take some time off right before they start their manga's final spurt or final arc. Neither the ANN article or Egan Loo's post contain any misinformation, you're the only one extrapolating and making up incorrect translations to fight off a non existant strawman, because no one is claiming that the July chapter will be the last one, nor are there any mentions of when the finale will be published. Just that, just as Kato mentioned, she's going to be preparing herself for that finale in the coming months |

Exactly what I said that's why you should wait because you don't know what she meant. Again you are putting here narrative as well.
She is and you ignored most of that tweet, gotcha^^ I still don't buy that by this alone. report that went before twitter got to it mentioned everything from her and you didn't. I know slapping "final chapter" is way hotter news than fact that we will get more informations from her every month till july.
Totally
Yes I'm totally only one here that is calling ANN out.
It can as well happen because the biggest arc in manga is being finished and we know it is not last one for years. Again you don't know what she meant there for sure. |

Why do you think that post is evidence of people misinterpreting the news? kamina170 only said "it's finally ending", which is correct. That's what Kato said, that she's getting ready for the finale (again, that's what 最終話 means). So the manga is ending, and in the near future. None of the early comments in this thread said anything about "wow i can't wait to read the final chapter in July". It's a little odd that you're so hung on not misrepresenting what Kato said (which no one is doing) while also misrepresenting and extrapolating nonexistent meaning from the ANN article and the posts in this thread Last edited by CrowLia on Thu Feb 05, 2026 12:37 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Yeah and you know what she meant when this arc is not finale one? SQ didin't even announced it so? Beside I never said that not about people here outside people did read it as that^^ The problem is with people going straight to this is ending when again mangaka always mentioned including in volumes that Of One Cloth is not a finale. So if this is about next arc being last it still not "near future". |
