... Even for the absurd japanese standards of chubbiness or fatness this is ridiculous, there's nothing there, and apparently that's the line for readers to tolerate someone liking it?

The bubble on the cover says "ex-fatty" so I guess she lost the weight...

I'm assuming the little chibified purple-haired girl on the cover is her "original" self, because we can't have pretty and fat be in the same sentence, now can we? |

If you're gonna make her fat, let her be fat. Nothing makes me more mad than having a character start off as unconventionally attractive and then immediately making them boring and generically good looking like every other protagonist. Why bother with a title like that then?

I'm glad to see it's not just me being kind of bewildered by the title and the look of the main character. When I think of "chubby" I'm thinking of that "Plus Sized Love" or "Plus Sized Elf".

KHNM I can understand (though at least one of the guys did like her when she was large) but Maebashi was pretty strongly commenting on the fact you can be attractive while large (eg Rinko), and that Azu's view was just her personal form of self loathing. ___ Unfortunately there's a number of isekai (both villainess and I believe villain isekai too) where the character starts fat and then gets thin within the first chapter... The fact they change so quick makes it feel like it's not even a plot point worth having, like when the fact someone was from another world is basically forgotten after one chapter besides a comment or two sometimes. |

Aside from the question of what qualifies as "fat," what is most troubling is how it seems to inextricably link "fat" to "evil." Whether she became evil because she was fat or she became fat because she was evil isn't clear from the promo. But either way, her only escape from doom is apparently to lose weight so she can not be evil. Or maybe not being evil is the most effective diet plan ever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If the trailer isn't just preliminary art, it looks like this will be one of those limited animation series like Yamishibai or last season's Potions Will Save Me (dunno what that style is called). |

An unfortunate cultural bias in that becoming fat is seen as failing in your social duties to both your country, your colleagues and your family. Associated deeply with putting the self in front of others, which is why its a chief signifier of the corrupt politician, or the Hikkimori that has given up on social inclusion. (In Japan)
Its a very rare indeed piece of media from Japan that is sympathetic to overweight. Outside of those times the best you can expect is recognising as a fetish but also considered an undesirable one. |

Yeah, sorry if that wasn't clear! That's what I liked about those series! They took a stock trope anime takes for granted and did something meaningful with it. Unlike this hackneyed paper-thin excuse for a premise. <.< |

Just had to run to the comments to see exactly where the "chubby" character is at. Everyone looks stick-thin, so I was totally confused and wondered if maybe they used the wrong image or something.
Maybe she's fat WITH evil? |

So she loses weight and is no longer chubby after what, chapter 1 or 2 at the latest? The word chubby should’ve been removed from the title or she should’ve stayed chubby. I agree it’s irritating to make her a generic beautiful character instead of an interestingly beautiful character.

Read until the early teens (dropped at chapter 14) to see where the whole romantasy angle of it all would end up since that part I can at least respect for seemingly committing to some toxic codependency (spoiler[we see his obsessive love seed just a few chapters prior, and naturally as a consequence of how ]). Well before that point, though, she's just slightly larger — if anything she looks bigger for his wider clothing than due to any particular weight distribution. Real "montage and vaguely round before the end of episode 1" hours. More-or-less, yeah. If anything her body kind of reads like an afterthought in the drawings too, and I was squinting to see fine differences between Little!Celine and Little!Adele which is something when you have... unpleasant lines like "I should be grateful to be provided with such a healthy, strong body", "this is my chance to live a normal, happy life", and "I should go on a diet. I won't be able to fall in love looking like this" in the first handful of chapters. While I've lived a life disabled, I am not experientially familiar with the particularity of being bedridden long-term and throughout life from it (she had Dying Anime Girl Disease), so I'll just say it left a bad taste in my mouth alongside reminding me of early criticisms I saw of In the Land of Leadale courtesy of Cy Catwell. As well, goodness did it lean on worldbuilding clichés to the point of irritation (thankfully absent slavery at least). Beyond the rest here I agree with, I'll say this reminded me of what Spring 2025's SHIROHIYO did. Dropped that, but it still did better for having an actually plus-size protagonist (and a comically coherent in-universe explanation for it), and its gentler moments felt more fitting for its leisurely tone. Granted, pretty different works otherwise.
"Light anime." (See: The Lockdown Zone series.) |

Oh, sorry, I completely misread that! My bad! ___ My assumption of why she's fat and evil is that she's fat because she's spoiled and because she's spoiled she's evil but having not read the series I can't say for sure. |

So Kiss Him, Not Me Villainess edition?
What is it with Haruka Shiraishi noblewomen getting possessive princes for love interests? That being said...Takeo Otsuka yandere male lead is actually appealing to me. |

That poor chubby woman doesn't even get to be chubby on the cover.
That small chubby chibi makes it look like she's a filler character |
