The one part that's a big change from the manga (though its based on the original LN) is the harem element is downplayed in the anime. Let's just say there is more harem "activity" in the manga/LN. But I enjoyed this series and I'm so far liking S2.

This is one of my most-rewatched titles of the past three years, and I often find myself coming back to it when I'm looking for something to mellow out to. I feel its strongest charm comes from the fantasy feel applied to its bucolic content, especially in scenes like the wine-making scene in episode 6, and how the village mostly builds itself from refugees.
That said, some criticisms (especially about artistic consistency in the characters) are fair ones. OTOH, I would rate it higher on the musical front, since with one or two exceptions the music promotes the desired feel just right.

This was (and still is with the currently airing 2nd season) enjoyable, though a little bit disappointing when it was clear that it was being toned down.

Having watched it twice I found it very enjoyable overall. Sure the setting & plot isn't anything grand or noteworthy but not every show needs to have them to be enjoyable & entertaining. E1 does tend to drag a bit, but that's most E1s these days I've noticed unfortunately, and it does get better as it goes on. Lulucy giving birth to her and Hiraku's son Alfred was a surprise since not many shows are known for that but it's nice how the entire village immediately rallies around them (Zabuton especially) & how overall despite some bickering at times they all feel like one big happy family. Something else I liked was how they gradually show the Great Tree Village expanding during the eye catchers each episode. The dub cast I felt was solid across the board, especially Blake Shepard (Hiraku), Luci Christian (Lulucy, which side note I just realized that if this was an intentional casting choice than it's a clever one) & Monica Rial (Tia). This show in general has a mix of well-known and lesser known VAs, even if they only play bit or minor parts like Brittney Karbowski & David Wald do as one of the elves & God respectively.
Overall a really enjoyable show and I look forward to season 2.

I generally avoid Japanese light novels and read Chinese and Korean web novels instead just because I like to keep my anime fresh. But I went online and skimmed the light novels of this anime towards the end of season 1 because the anime avoided the harem element so successfully that I honestly wanted to know how the hell Lulucy got pregnant. Was it vampire parthogenesis? Did the guy called the Progenitor who showed up have something to do with it? I read enough to find out that there should be more pregnancies coming, and I do wonder how the anime is going to handle that. Avoid it entirely or just leave it looking as if this world has a baby fairy?
I rewatch this show on those occasions when I wake up at 2:00 in the morning and want something that will relax me and that I'll enjoy drifting back to sleep to. It shares that honor with other anime like Aria and With You and the Rain.
I like the just-enough detail that goes into the town building and the slow, steady sense of progress and mutual support. I also agree that the music isn't something I'd buy or listen to in my free time, but it's great at enhancing the overall vibe.

It took me two tries to get through the first season and I have little interest in ever returning to this world. Not every show has to have character development but this series sucked the character out of everyone.
The main character stuck his magical tool into things and nature took over. That's it.
The way it works, it's more like the guy was trapped in a farming minigame that was made for a dating game.

There is one blink-and-you'll-miss-it comment early on in the anime which indicates that Hiraku and Lulucy effectively being married does include sex: when Lulucy is trying to convince Tia to stay, she throws out the comment "my body won't be able to handle it if it's just myself." There really isn't any other way to reasonably interpret that line than that Hiraku's "healthy body" also gives him great sexual stamina.

I noticed it, but they were in the middle of doing a lot of farming at the time.
It came right around the same time as another moment where Lulucy says that she's staying in loli form so that Hiraku won't jump her. You could take that to mean that he's been being too demanding (which is probably how it went in the novel), but the show makes it sound like she's fending off any possibility of him being aggressive.
I remembered all that, but then the show had that scene where Hiraku gets his own bedroom. You could interpret that to mean that he doesn't have one partner and has some kind of rotation schedule, but the elves also make a bedroom for...you know... activity, but Hiraku acts like he's going to stay away from it. And then there's another scene where Hiraku is guarding his private bedroom against intruders.
The show wasn't oblique, it was sneaky in making it seem like Hiraku was a pristine virgin.
I thought about all that after I skimmed the light novels.
That said, I don't really want to complain about it. I like the show, and I sort of understand why the anime went that way. "My Sweet, Peaceful, Healing Village" and "How I Formed My own Shag Palace" are two very different vibes. And I like "My Sweet, Peaceful, Healing Village" just fine.
