Complete and utter bullshit. If I put something in my own words, it's not yours anymore. Do something about your country's nonces or asinine drug policies instead of this.

I hate to ask but.... Doesn't this violate Japan's constitution? Doesn't Japan have something equivalent to the 1st Amendment or something equivalent to freedom of speech/press? Because if a country like Japan can jail you for putting that much spoiler and you can go to jail for that, then that's not a country that will uphold the freedom of speech. Honestly, I've never heard of any country jailing anyone just for writing up a big spoiler in that manner. |

I'm aware of that, but this still looks like Japan has violated a person's freedom of speech just for writing a spoiler (which happens all the time, including on Wikipedia and/or Fandom Wikia). This is to me looks unjust. |

@Aerdra: Maybe not in writing. However, in practice, I think they would. Otherwise, many doujinshi projects and groups would be shut down.

I do think they could tear down these projects if they wanted. The copyright holders historically haven't as a show of goodwill, and because, at this point, the community would be absolutely enraged if they did it without a good reason. Doujinshi creators are also normally pretty good about not stepping on the original creator's toes. |

As @Uchay says, publishers have the right to take action against doujinshi but often choose not to except in egregious cases. Japanese law also does not recognize the concept of laches (at least not explicitly). Basically, this means copyright holders may deliberately ignore instances of copyright infringement if they choose, without losing the ability to enforce copyright in other instances. A publisher may choose to ignore a one-shot doujin that infringes its copyright, then later pursue action if the doujin writer crosses a line. |

Japan has already has a very robust and strong handling of drugs and people who push them pretty well already so I'm not sure what more you could expect them to do.. According to this article the guy was essentially writing a transcript of the movie which obviously goes beyond just telling people spoilers If it's a leaked script or currently airing movie it could also raise concerns like how some streamers are not allowed to stream new games from some Japanese companies beyond a certain point. Japan doesn't have much in the way of 'fair use' and people are often at the media holder's mercy so people often take the way we do things here in America for granted so they would have even less ground to stand on. But I've seen cases of Hollywood studios and companies DMCA people for posting spoilers and leaks so just because you put things in your own words doesn't seem to necessarily protect you. I heard HBO recently subpoenaed a spoiler account for the new season of Euphoria so even here in America they consider spoiling new media to be a blow to profits. |

Have you read any Wikipedia article about manga and anime and compared the differences between the Japanese and not Japanese versions? Barely you will see any image in the Japanese ones. |

Wasn't Godzilla Minus One a super smash hit and one of the biggest Japanese films of the year from a commercial perspective? The highest grossing Godzilla movie ever = suffered crippling commercial harm. That's kinda like fantasy. Do they even sell scripts? Can they at least point to script sales being oddly low given the film's success to show that something actually did suffer something that could be considered financial harm?
The One Piece wiki literally exists so that you can get detailed info about anything in One Piece without have to buy/rent/read/watch/stream every chapter, volume, DVD, VHS, and BD. For free. Usually updated within hours of new content releasing. If Godzilla Minus One was a smash hit but you can claim it was a commercial failure to go after websites, couldn't you just pretend that like nobody reads One Piece, they can't sell a single volume, nobody tunes in to the broadcast, etc and it's all because of these damn wikis. Wikis filled with screenshots and artwork that you know they never cleared. And it's like thousands of pieces of artwork, not like some movie review with two stills and that's it. |
