The Promised Neverland maybe?

Nah, they weren't being trained to kill and they weren't making them fight each other to see who had the tastiest brains. Smile Shadows House had a little of the reverse trope going on, but even that doesn't quite work, if memory serves and it rarely does these days.

That was a very wholesome episode/wedding. Even the suicidal bomber was wholesome in a weird way, which is something I never expected to type. I also did not expect an insect themed wedding to look so magical. Hell, the spiders looked cute and I am not a fan of those at all.

Loved the needle noggin family. Very Happy Those kids were great. The spiders were too. I liked how when the pink one was angry only two of its eyes glinted.

I'm seeing a pattern here. The same one as in Sakamoto Days. First, you have the Masters/hitmen. Then you have the one who hunts them.

Yeah, definitely a pattern. Not particularly surprised. I somewhat saw this one coming.

We did meet the person hunting the masters this week but the conclusion was a bit different than one might have expected. Hunter/normal dude Piichi is actually a relatively good guy and he is also the strongest character in the show thus far. Gero would have been killed if not for Kimie and Mei speaking up for him. Piichi has not turned into an enemy but an ally in the quest to save Kimie the very quirky hamster master.

Okay, so I'm all caught up now.

I can handle the concept of one confused stand-up guy of an assassin...after all, I enjoyed at least 5 or 6 seasons of Dexter, the show about an introspective serial killer who hunts serial killers. But man, between the wedding and the hitman hunter with the gentle demeanor, we're starting to have the nice guy killers coming out of the woodwork. And that's not a bug master reference.

The hamster master reminds me of the Great Jahy. That's a good thing.

I wonder who Piichi was talking on the phone with? If it was his gf, I expect that to be a twist down the road. Actually, whoever it was, I think it's going to be messy. Also, how did he learn of the Beastie boys' especially heinous plans?

Lol at the arcade wanted posters. Like the reindeer "Johan, Servant of Santa."

Is there a reason a family that could control rats moved down to hamsters and become jokes? I would think someone able to control swarms of rats would be effective at ninja stuff.

It's strange: I see Kimie and I'm reminded me Galaxy Angels. Specifically Forte and Ranpha. She is like a mashup of the two. I actually like that show.

I find that strange too. How are rats and hamsters that different when they both can gather intel (which is pretty useful)? I figure it's just politics: hamsters are on the lower pecking order of the rodent family, compared to rats, which are often considered representative of rodents. Not about ability or utility; it's just representation.

And man, we need to know more about Piichi. Just concluding that he's a mutant seems so dissatisfying, especially after seeing how strangely normal he seems (to the point that he's borderline psychopathic). That, and who he is taking orders from. Something about him doesn't add up.

The fights were as insane as usual but I really need to disregard the notion of there being a power balance. Piichi seemed invincible last week and Gero is a master from one of the top families yet both struggled a lot this week. Aside from that there is nothing that Kinosaki can't do, the mixing of blood seems like a bad idea and water master is seemingly returning next week.

If we want to be nit-picky, Gero identified early in the show that he's not really a combat specialist like Piichi (who also got the drop on him, and an early stab wound in the fight.) Piichi being hurt because he was hit by a trap while covering Kinosaki makes sense, as does Gero struggling a bit when he doesn't have much time to prepare.

Or view it like I do: it's Nasuverse powerscaling, where the outright power levels aren't as important as how well the fighters match up.

Is it just me, or is the pacing really off in this episode? It felt very hasty this time. Especially the fight between Gero and the Bird Master; it felt like everything was flying right by me. I've always liked the show's fast pace, but this time, it felt like it was hauling ass.

And I'm still not really satisfied with Piichi's origin. I don't think I can just accept that he's a mutant and that's it.

There have been several bad guys up until now and they all had some charming/redeeming aspects to them. Bat master is very much not one of them, he is an annoying a-hole with not a single redeeming point and boy is it going to be satisfying when Gero smashes him into a pulp. I appreciate that every new potential marriage candidate gets some spotlight and character development. It was satisfying to see Kimie decide that she will make something happen herself while activating her hamster and rat army (no idea why she is specifically a hamster master anymore).

I agree that the pacing this arc is a bit uneven.

He is the main character of a previous one-shot from authors' (later on released on Marriage toxin Vol. 5). Not that there were many explanations about his powers then.
