No surprise at all. No group activity support, no merch support, no using the Cover studio, combined with still having to follow company rules and, most likely, providing a good size cut of the money to the Company. It's basically being an indie with the downsides of being in an agency.

I always forget Holostars is a thing... not surprising. I imagine most people don't want to watch male vtubers.

Unfortunately it's just a matter of time. I'm honestly surprised the EN boys are unaffected (for now, at least).

And... If there's one area where Nijisanji (and by extension, the EN branch) beats Holo, it's that their boys are doing just fine.

Yeah, I think that separation by making them branches was a mistake. A Niji wave could be female, male, or mixed, but all part of the same branch. It's at least a lot harder to pitch a fit about interacting with the other genders when they debut together and the company makes it clear that it's going to happen from the start.

It's not really a "mistake" because unicorns are Hololive's bread and butter. I don't know much about Niji's business or culture but a big part of Hololive's appeal is the unicorn aspect so the separation of the girls and boys is important for them. It would also probably explain why it's affecting the JP side more than EN since jP relies a lot more on unicorn money.

The boys on the EN side seem to have been doing far better than their JP counterparts via average viewers, merch and money. Not that it matches the girls.

The thing most people are going to ignore is that they tried to make holostars as a whole work for 7 years and it never got near profitability. Even the "boost" after the announcement of end of support lasted 24 hours before they were at low triple digit views. Roberu seems to be the exception as he runs on the low end of the girls side of viewers. But there was no way that Holostars wasn't going to get cut eventually. It would have taken a decade or more of sustained profits and growth to dig out of the financial hole.

Is it covers fault? yes and no. Cover misjudged the market from the beginning. they tried to make it work for a long time. all of this is true.

By my estimates (I have no hard numbers to base it on, just supposition from working in corparate environments.), holostars could have lost something like 1-2 million a year, per year. now times that by 7.

It's so depressing. If Holostars EN goes I am through with watching Vtubers. Period.

They'll all most likely redebut as indies anyway lmao, what're they gonna do with all that streamer equipment they've owned across the years otherwise?

Give it a couple months and we'll most likely see the ones from this post redebuting as indies even
