If we're expecting them to be changing enough to make it "the next Death Note show", then I don't see why the presence of the Nazis would be some sacred cow they would be incapable of altering. They'd just file the serial numbers off to make them a "fictional" group. That said, we all know they'll be pulling from 3/4/5 only, as that's where all the easy brand recognition lies. I don't see a 1, IS, or EP adaption happening unless someone high on the chain actively fights for it, and none of the parties mentioned seem all that likely to do that. |

If they adapt the 3rd game I would be concerned that some kids would try the envoker gun with a real gun.

One Piece after all starts in what is basically the West, and they don't go to Japan(Wano) until much later. It's much more universal. Persona is set in Japan and it's themes and social commentary are all about Japan. |

I've yet to see a good live-action adaption of an anime out of Hollywood. They're all too afraid to engage with the source material earnestly and are always headed by people with an axe to grind who are just itching to change everything they don't like about it. And that's before you get into all the racebending and cultural stuff.

This could either be a success like One Piece, or a disaster like Death Note. There is no inbetween.
My predictions: - Will be set in America, with possible travel to Japan. - Will have a new semi-original story. - Will have token diversity casting. - Will ignore P1/2. - Will use P3 as inspiration. - Will go with the female lead. - They'll keep the evokers, but alter their designs to be less "gun-like." - Aigis will be the only character who resembles the original and introduced early. - Dog will be rewritten as lab test subject paired with Aigis. - Personaa and fights will be more like Jojo Stands. |

Aren't the Persona mainline games M-Rated? Well, I bet there's tons of teens that have played (or seen a walkthrough) the games, so I imagine this live-action version will be aimed at mature audiences, but then again shows like Stranger Things and especially Squid Game have been popular with younger audiences. Now that I think about it, I wonder how the tone of this adaptation is going to be. The Persona series, at least from 3 onwards, have a very distinctive tone, akin to a seinen anime. I'm struggling to see how Hollywood will adapt the tone of the games, I'm not usually someone who complains about this kind of stuff, but I can imagine the showrunners aiming for a Marvel-type tone (and I like most of the MCU), if they are taking inspiration on P4 and P5 are they going to include a non-human character like Teddie or Morgana? I'm imagining it acting more like Ted from those Seth McFarlane movies/show. I'm now thinking about the show's budget, how are they going to pull out all of the Personae and settings like the ones from P3, 4 and P5, though in this case I wouldn't be bother by the use of greenscreen. |

I think it's really sad that the first reaction people have to new things is to immediately image the worst case scenario. Like yeah Netflix adaptations don't have a perfect record but I think One Piece was successful enough to grant some amount of goodwill, at least enough until you learn literally anything about the project beyond "it will exist one day".
Also, videogame adaptations have been doing pretty well in the last few years between Sonic, Castlevania, Fallout, Last of Us, etc... Like what's the worst that can happen? A bad tv show is made. So what? The games will still be there.
I dunno about that. My roommate never played Fallout and he loved the tv show.
If they despised anime they wouldn't keep adding more to their library. What they like is money, and turns out the majority of people watch anime on Netflix. Also I'm sorry but I need to call it out. Real interesting the number of people that brought up race, like the very idea that seeing a black person in a tv show taking place in Japan would shatter their little racial purity fantasy. |

Cowards won't even have Mara....
5 is by far the most popular so if it's a previous game that would probably be it. That said, that is also the one that advocates for people to rise up against corrupt adults in positions of power and given the, y'know, state of the freakin' world these days, I can see Netflix being a little antsy about doing that. It almost certainly won't be 3 though, not with those Awakenings/Summonings. Actually the more I think about it, the more 4 seems like the one that would be most prime for adaptation (again, if they're even gonna do a straight adaptation of one of the games). |

"Rated M for Mara" has been a fandom joke since before I first joined, yeah, though part of the joke is that Mara stands out due to the Persona games otherwise being generally tame for their M rating. In fact the ratings for P3/4/5 have fluctuated between CERO B (ages 12+) and CERO C (ages 15+) in Japan (for instance, P4 and P4R are B, but P4G was rated C). That said, for the person you're quoting, P3 parodies/jokes where someone actually shoots themselves (on accident or out of delusion) are extremely old hat too.
Really? P3 onwards have always felt pretty firmly shonen to me. Can't really think of anything specific that would feel out of place in some of the series SJ has carried. |

It's funny you say this because Persona 3 Reload did in-fact replaced the SEES armbands with weird shoulderpad things in the remake. Many fans suspect it's because they looked too much like Nazi armbands.. And with the changes we're already seeing with Persona 4 Revive it seems even without touching on Mr. Cool Shades from Persona 2 there's plenty of stuff in Persona 3, 4, and 5 that just aren't going to fly today especially in an American production. The best thing they could do is their own take set in America rather than trying to retell the established games, but they could have also done that with One Piece, Cowboy Bebop, and Death Note easily enough as well but chose to adapt the main source material because of name recognition and money. Logic states they'll do Persona 5 since it's the most popular. Maybe 4 to line it up with the remake.
Todd Howard is on record stating that Fallout 5 will absolutely be based on the TV show and take it into account due to it's success. The new Castlevania game is clearly borrowing it's art style from the Netflix show. God only knows what Devil May Cry will happen in the future. Sonic literally had movie crossover DLC added to Generations. One Piece hasn't influenced the manga yet but it has pretty much taken up merchandise slots that could have gone to anime or manga stuff like the LEGO sets which many fans wanted to see based on the anime. Like it or not bad adaptions do affect source material. At best it makes fandom discourse toxic and worse. At worse they become the new face and canon of the franchise. |

It has influenced the manga in minor ways. Like we see Kuro and Krieg show up for the first time in decades at pretty much the exact time Oda would have been thinking more about them because of the live-action |

God forbid Asian people want to see representation and their stories told of media made from an Asian country especially when we're just now finally making strides with accurate casting in things like K-Pop Demon Hunter and Avatar the Last Airbender. The only foreigner in Persona 5 is Ann who is a quarter-white but still 3/4ths Japanese. Everyone else is Japanese. If you have an issue with seeing Asians on your screen that much then perhaps you shouldn't be partaking in Asian media. You want our stories and culture but not us as people? Why do you dislike us so much? |
