This strongly reminds me of those manga and anime of the past in which the mc is thrown into a messy situation and has to make the best of it. In said stories the parents are usually trash at best and here it is not any different. The humor is absurd and utterly unrealistic but that means anything can happen. So yeah, I am in, a new entry like Shomin Sample or Hayate no Gotoku! is something I can appreciate.

Well if he is caught, I rather be caught by the dad than the maid, I will getting killed over getting it chopped off alive.

I was thrown off at first at the reveal, I thought the twist was the girl is a robot or AI.

Holy crap I missed a lot of anime in a day and half.

Anyhow, I would argue that the anime antecedents of this show are Hayate the Combat Butler and The Pet Girl of Sarakasou. I'm not sure how anime mate, but I am pretty sure that this anime is their love child.

But I liked both of those shows, so I'm willing to give this one a chance. I'm rooting for the poor shmuck of a lead. He's hard working, earnest, and sane for now. And I find the female lead amusing instead of annoying as the foil for all of those qualities.

Light and frothy, nothing wrong with that. I'll stick with this for a bit, but my instinct is it will be one of those shows I'll follow for a while and then suddenly go, "yep, got my fill" and leave. We'll see.

Itsuki is sure to have a lively school experience. Hinako is spazzing out in unpredictable ways if you do not pay attention, Mirei is a classic over the top ojou-sama and now the childhood friend enters the picture too. Itsuki is hanging in there just as well as Hayate would though, which means that he will slowly grow into the perfect caretaker.

I think the maid is my favorite character. Blondes with the drills haircut usually fall into two categories - the arrogant villainess complete with the villainess laugh, or the rich heir who's all about her family position but is basically a good person underneath the pretensions. This one seems to fall into the latter category. And I'm still finding the female lead more amusing than annoying. The poor little rich girl bit could get annoying, but I do feel like the character is basically acting out in the ways she can because of all the isolation her position has caused.

I thought the show was pretty lively and am interested in next week.

I should probably know within an episode or two if this will stick with me or go bye-bye. There's nothing wrong with it, but I can't say I'm super engaged, either.

Are we sure the girl at the end is not the maid, who has a split personality.

This being an anime, I wouldn't bet the title deed of my house against it, but I'd at least bet my lawnmower. The maid thing seems like a full-time job that's been going on for a good while (kind of feels like she's been driving the car on the regular, for example), and the anime began with him texting some childhood friend that he was going to have to cancel his high school plans, and that was obviously planting a seed. So, it seems farfetched. But it's not like anime haven't fetched far before.

@Blood - yah, this anime is pretty cusp with me too. I've still got 34 anime on my calendar, and next week is when the 3 episode rule starts running out. In my mind, this season's anime are going to be setting themselves against each other like gladiators in a vicious contest where only a few survive, and I'm going to be sitting up in the emperor's seat, ready to give a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Of course, I'm thinking of it that way because it seems much more fun than thinking of it as me just being one of millions of millions of people whose individual viewing habits really don't amount to a gnat's fart in the big anime scheme of things.

Anyway, whether the childhood friend turns out to be an annoying or somewhat fun development could be a tipping point.
