Not sure what to make of this one. Sounds like it might be a slow romance as much as a food show competition, but the art of the trailer is kind of repulsive.

So, finally got around to watching the first episode.
I will say that this anime is not just another crap production trying to milk a generic formula with as little originality as possible. It has its own thing going on. I will also say that one of the leads (Jan) is unlikable...and not just the arrogant personality...that perpetual scowl makes it not fun to even look at him, which is unfortunate because he gets a lot of screen time and the lion's share of the plot focus. He's the antagonist, but only sort of, so that makes up for some of it, but again, only sort of. This seems to be an anime where two opposites will eventually learn a bit from each other, but I'm not sure I'll have the patience to put up with it until that happens. I also thought the anime was lazy as #$%@ when it did that thing at the end where it tacked on what was essentially a trailer to the story, breaking up the narrative flow to lionize itself, and that's not promising. |

While I can appreciate a decent cooking anime this one will be hard for me stomach given how Jan behaves. His extreme self-centered and egotistical nature was making a large part of the episode a slog to watch. There have been other cooking anime with annoying characters but those are almost never the ones in the spotlight to this degree. So yeah, good on you for (likely) watching more Edjwald but I am not gonna watch more to then complain about how much of an a-hole he is every week (which is something I would do).

Episode 1
More like Iron Jerk Jan, amirite??? What a piece of work. His looks and personality make this a tough watch but I'll see how far my patience goes. |

Yeah, I'm out. I had a feeling during the first episode, but I'm just not in the mood to spend this much time staring at people who are unrealistically drawn to be repulsive and jarring and written pretty repulsively as well. Especially when one of them is the title character and his influence is in just about every scene.

Episode 2
The overthetopness of this show, both visually and emotionally, is starting to grow on me. It really helped that Iron Jerk Jan and Princess Snotty gave an even bigger jerk his comeuppance. 'Course, it doesn't hurt that I tend to enjoy anime about food. |

Combined with the aforementioned repulsiveness, I call that the Ren and Stimpy effect though I don't usually associate it with anime about enjoying food. I didn't share it here, and it's been a long time since I saw that show, but I'm glad you're enjoying the benefits. |

Episode 3
I was pleasantly surprised that the episode started off with Jan screwing up. I was also surprised to see he seems to be developing a real friendship with the only decent person in the kitchen (the trainee guy). We got a sense of it last week, but this episode really sealed it: Jan's grandfather was a freakin' psycho. |
