I realize .hack's IMOQ games are just so outdated, but they are important to me, as are the story and characters across the R:1 and R:2 eras. I love them. I'm reading Epitaph of the Twilight for the first time, but I had to spend over $100 to get the books from Japan because they were never published in English. So many of the manga and novels are out of print and so expensive. I'm only missing very few of them, but each volume is $50 to $200, especially in English. I can't realistically revisit what might be my favorite game series, of which I own nearly everything that was published in both English and Japanese, without going broke... It makes me sad.

I'm looking forward to the reboot and maybe it'll be good enough to help me look past my nostalgia, but please, re-release printed versions of the old books! Also, give us Blu Ray sets of SIGN and Roots before Sony stops making Blu Rays altogether! DX

Yeah. It feels the developers are aware of the games' issues since the GU remaster comes with options to make the game faster. Still, it's a shame the new chapter is so short. Guess the budget wasn't so big but they still managed to give the final chapter new cinematic sequences similar to their Naruto games where we can even control the kaijus. Still, while I heard good stuff about the mangas, it seems Haseo might clash with the readers in there because he was written to be more aggressive than in the game.

If they're self-publishing, I hold out hope that the new dotHack game won't randomly have EAC plaguing its PC release.

The Infection series on PS2 is a really hard sell these days - due to it being (ancient by modern standards) one of the first-ish & most prominent multi-medium IP across TV, games, and books, it's rather unrealistic to go back to it in 2026 and have anything remotely resembling the experience that we did back in the day due to the extreme cost and hardship of hunting down supplementary materials.

The novelty.... of looking at the NPCs in-game and thinking "Wow! But just, what if these WERE real people actually!?" doesn't hold as well now in a world with constant cell phones and social media. A remake would either have to include a compilation of some of the book releases in an in-game viewer, or it would forever be stuck existing purely just to allow nostalgic players a way to revisit the games on modern hardware without much immersion. Fragment getting an expanded re-release would be a slightly different story, but I cannot imagine BamCo even daring to try to adapt that to modern networking if Capcom hasn't even made an attempt with their Resident Evil PS2 HDD titles.

Hopefully the new project is sandbox-y and compelling enough that it stands on its own. GU had a problem of being very hand-holding on PS2 and focused more on being an interactive anime story rather than an "imitation" sandbox MMO like Infection. It's uplifting to see the series making a comeback, but it's also clear that BamCo has had absolutely no clue what the IP should look like anymore after GU's PS2 run. They absolutely need to do something with light online multiplayer that isn't a Monster Hunter/God Eater facsimile, but then, even I couldn't say how that could successfully be accomplished given how far the MMO genre has fallen into a themepark shithole.

CC2 needs to get the rights to these games so they can re-release them themselves Laughing

From what I get the budget is provided by Bandai. Apparently, these type of conditions is of the issues that Tekken 8 had which caused Harada leave and move to SNK

The original games and shows mean a lot to me since they represent the early days of online culture and gaming. It's a lost time period and certainly the games don't represent modern online gaming culture. Even then The World felt more like an MUD than a graphical MMO like Everquest or World of Warcraft. It was nice though and one of the first multi-media franchises I took part in. Although these days the concept has become a bit exhausting.

ROOTS was pretty trashy back when that was fresh & new, but I just went back and watched SIGN recently with a friend that had never seen it previously, and it still held up very well. SIGN captures atmosphere without moving to slow. It captures emotion without neglecting action and adventure. There's a mystique to it that has not been replicated too often in the years/decades since its release.

At least half of the appeal of .hack is the soundtracks. So much of SIGN was just long lingering shots of Tsukasa(?) looking sad, or panning out over the landscape, with the soundtrack imbuing the whole experience with immaculate vibes.

Picked up most of the .hack franchise OST's over the years, first the Yuki Kajiura and LieN ones, then the others (still need to get .hack//Versus).

.hack//Liminality OST is a real gem for an OVA that came bundled with a game.

I think that was the problem of Bee Train to begin with. The Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle anime by the same staff was one of the biggest disappointments I watched as a a kid considering its slow pacing, frozen shots, and overthetop music There was also some censorship but I guess airing Syaoran and Sakura drinking alcohol would be kinda problematic. The OVAs by Production IG instead felt like a fresh of breath air.
