Has anybody seen the movie Revolutionary Girl Utena? i just watched it like three times and i get it up to the part where Utena wants to go to the "outside world". will someone please xplain it to me Question Rolling Eyes

The movie doesn't make anything remotely resembling sense until you've seen the TV series. It still doesn't make sense afterward, but it comes closer. The show is also an absolute masterpiece and available pretty cheap for something 39 episodes long, so go watch it.

I have the movie, and I've watched it several times, on top of watching the series several times over to try and help make sense of it. I've kinda given up, and everyone is going to have their own personal interpretations. So really I've just kinda remained perfectly clueless.

The series has been out of print for a some time now. I recently managed to get all 10 DVDs for a around $130, although I ended up spending a good amount on shipping since I had to buy them from a number of different online retailers. Almost all of the volumes were used with couple being previous rentals. I'm sure the total cost would be fairly high if you wanted new copies, but this wasn't even an option for me since some of the volumes were only available used. I wouldn't consider it pretty cheap compared to other older 39 episode series that have had complete collection releases.

I suggest reading the Adolescence of Utena manga. Granted, it's a different retelling of Utena's story and there's no Shiori, but it helps in understanding the universe in which the plot takes place and what had been going on all along.

They're going to start showing the TV series on Anime Selects in May.
