Actually, according to the Anime encyclopedia, this is a remake of an older anime series. But, you probably knew that already.

Sweetness, Shin flies again.
Now let's hope it leads to a remake (or GBA port release) of U.N. Squadron. Probably the best side scroll shooter released on SNES. |

Yeah it didn't look like the original series...those were pretty faithful to how the charaters looked in the manga. I'm not really liking Shin in this image too much
As I recall UN squadron was a top scroller? j |

Nope, side scroll and well done side scrolling at that.
Here's a writeup. http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,8061/ |

I've always loved how they renamed the Area 88 Super Famicom game U.N. Squadron for North America. Achieve victory through awesome displays of aerial firepower. Yes, that's just like the real U.N.

Hell yeah, UN Squadron freaking owned! I finally got a chance last month to see the whole Area 88 saga, not too surprised by the ending. Still its fun (and bloody) aerial combat at its best! |

I used to work at an arcade where they had the UN coin-op. Used to beat it regularly with one credit (I think the little CapCom astronaut guy does different things at the end based on if you continued but can't remember). I do remember that your planes land safely on the carrier instead of you ejecting if you finish Carrier Airwings (almost the same game as UN) in one credit.
Alas, Kaneto Shiozawa my favorite voice actor will not play Shin. It's funny to think that A88 is becoming a period piece since the manga has been out so long. It's sorta the same feeling that I had when watching Casablanca last week, and thinking "Wow this stuff was current when this movie came out!" |

Now if only VIZ would re-release Area 88 manga as GN.. At least they can finish it in one big swoop
... I kinda like the TV series but some of the cosmetic changes they did with Ryouko is strange .. :/

I'm more put off by Shin's redesign.
I don't like it...not one bit (clutches his Area 88 LD box set and manga )

No I didn't hear about it. Sounds great
That was way back in the early 90's when I watched area 88. Just like cold pizza, its still good!! Now that a whole new delivery may be coming our way I highly anticipate it. Woot! D.W. |

Shiozawa Kaneto died a few years ago.... Koyasu Takehito plays Shin. He's my favorite voice actor. I'm watching New Area 88 now. It's exciting! |
