Again, you say your friends don't like reading book. (Just the one?) Yet that's exactly what they're reading while reading manga and comics.
Wait. So you want to be true to the book, but then do things.. not in the book. You know if you want to be true to the book.. JUST READ THE BOOK.
I can see a spinoff novel. Yet I just see it as rather repetitive to make the same novel into a graphic novel.
Wait. Again. The movie wasn't true to the novel. I want to the 'manga' to be true to the novel... so change these things? Do you not see what nonsense you're making?
Again.. wtf are you talking about? TinTin is fine as is. That's not the problem. There's just no market for large in color European books because of cheap ass weaboos like yourself who need everything to be in a Japanese name, black and white, and only a cheap ten dollars. Europe actually appreciates the art enough to spit out a bit more cash for color. That's quite unlike these OEL manga and manga die hards. They just want a cheap small b&w books at ten bucks. Well, that's if they actually buy the book instead of reading it in the aisle. You guys are in love with Japan and in love with what you think makes manga but are just cliches. This mentality is why something like TinTin is not selling in America.
Again, if they're reading manga, they're reading a book.
Learn to read. Literacy. Not a bad idea. Maybe get yourself checked out for a learning disorder if you find yourself unable to read a novel.
Out damned spot! Out! Out, brief candle. Your OEL manga lifestyle is but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale full of sound and fury signifying nothing!
Funny, even just looking at the Japan produced Animatrix or Batman Gotham Knight I noticed a bunch of different art style designs used.
Then why don't you create your own damn character? Try to be original. I know, crazy idea. Let TinTin be himself and don't try to make him into some Rambo action star.
Actually, the novel was supposedly pretty brutal. Just that what's in words is imagined while what's on screen is shown. It's more so the new film was brutal compared to previous films. Actually, I'm sorry if I've dishonored glorious Nippon by complaining about OEL manga. Maybe I should go commit public sue-de-ku.

I think I'm actually starting to be won over by mdo7's arguments:
Shonen Tintin Seinen Asterix Shojo Peanuts Josei Calvin And Hobbes Hentai Garfield Yaoi Moomins Eroguro Rupert The Bear Just imagine the possibilities... --- On a serious note, if mdo7's really a highly literate troll, he's good. Very good. |

Actually, if mdo7 is so concerned about literacy, why not go all the way? Yes, I'm talking about MANGA FINNEGANS WAKE.
Seriously, though, don't mess with Tintin. There's enough controversy surrounding it as is. |

Which reminds me, wasn't Dupuis trying to launch Spirou in Japan by producing a manga version with original stories? |

I find two things amusing there. 1. Tacking a Japanese term to a "comic" title. 2. Calling MDO a troll just because he argues on the side of the fence opposite yours.
That's the advantage of graphic novels; and it's the reason why the younger readers have taken a liking to them -- not as word intensive. For the record, I'll be using Graphic Novel from now on to cover EVERYTHING - that includes the comics. |

1) Er, yeah. That was sarcasm with a dash of irony. Was that not blindingly obvious? 2) I didn't say he was a troll - it's quite possible he really is semi-literate and incapable of interpreting (much less making) a straightforward, coherant, logical argument. I merely posited the possibility, given the peculiarity of some of the stuff he comes out with. |

Bottom line here: ANY person can come up with good "manga" ideas. Person does not have to be Japanese. Of course, the demand for "quality" doesn't go away. If the story and art sucks, then low sales (if any).

I'll agree with him on that.
Not a bad idea for a Tintin manga.
Go ahead, why don't you take your thought and shut up and quit being a troll about it. Manga is about art and style, not origin. It's my right to call it OEL manga. What you call it is none of my freakin business.
Does that include Japanese Manga, Korean manhwa, and Chinese manhua? You said called everything Graphic Novel, that's mean everything graphic novel made around the world are graphic novel including manga.
Well, I have friends who don't like reading books, but loving manga. I have other people I know who don't like reading, but also love reading manga/Graphic Novel also. One of my friends told me he love the movie adaptions of The Andromeda Strain, but he doesn't want to read the novel. He wish he wants it to be a manga. So I thought if OEL manga is popular and Shakespeare did a good job as a OEL manga. Why not turn some of our Sci-Fi. and techno-thriller novel into OEL manga? I have no objections as long as they stick to true story. Now about Tintin manga, You know France (and Belgium) had a long history with manga and anime, right? Now what would happen if Herge Foundation did thought of making Tintin manga? What happen if the art was good, and Tintin's personality has been redefined and he can now do thing that he couldn't do in the original comic like I don't know like driving a car in a action movie kind of style, would you object that? What would happen if Herge foundation approved of Tintin killing one of the bad guy by headshot, would you approve of that? I wouldn't, I think Tintin needs a modern update to himself and reflect the modern day event. You don't like OEL, that's fine. But I told you they have the right to be marketed here. What's wrong with the name and the way they market. I don't see any problem with that. All right, I read a OEL manga called Miki falls. I don't think you're not going to find any Japanese manga with a plotline like Miki Falls. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miki_Falls This OEL manga even got good reviews. Look at this link for the review.

Define this 'manga style' and 'manga art'. This manga:
And this:
This too:
Not every manga looks the average crap Tokyopop picks up for publishing.
I think he was pretty clear on that. He's going to call everything, no matter it's origin, graphic novel.
Your friend is an idiot. If we wants to read the original story, he shouldn't wait for a comic adaption.
The French and Belgians love manga, but they love their own comicseven more. The Hergé Foundation isn't going to allow something like that, because it is, guess what, the Hergé Foundation! Tintin was his creation and unlike many other BD heroes Tintin was never drawn by another artist. Tintin is Tintin and should stay that way. There is no need for a modern update, modern does not mean better. This series is like an artefact among comics. It shows the spirit of it's time, but is also accessable for new readers.
You still do not get it. What is right with the marketing? Explain that. You want everything to be manga, but I can't understand why. Do you think manga is a superior kind of comic or something? Edit: I saw the author of Miki Falls replied to one of the reviews:
Comics: 2 (OEL) manga: 0 |

He doesn't read. He just doesn't.
And he's never actually provided ample evidence for his points. Now he's even attacking his buddy because he can't use the quote function properly. |

Again with the idea of TinTin Shonen manga. Again you take something sarcastic we put forth as a bad example and think it's a good idea. No!
Tamaria's exaples, from cyborg 009 and Black and White (Tekonkinkreet) and that other one, are really a good example of what we're trying to argue. Here. I found another selection of various art styles in manga. Can you tell me how all of these are the same manga style? Because I see a beautiful variety. I don't lump all manga as one single entity. I see a number of amazing mangaka with different styles to study.
click to enlarge Again! There is no one manga style. There is only a stereotype of one. Do you really want to propagate stereotypes? Do you want to be a cliche or do you want to create your own work? Oh and is Barack Obama manga style? (From a new chapter of Air Gear, another example Oh Great!'s fantastic art.) source: http://clockwork-hands.livejournal.com/59873.html
