From http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/newspro/latest_news.shtml#newsitem1080762099,33877,
Dakota Fanning (I AM SAM) as Satsuki Elle Fanning (DADDY DAYCARE) as Mei Timothy Daly (WINGS) as Mr. Kusakabe Lea Salonga (MISS SAIGON) as Mrs. Kusakabe Pat Carroll (THE LITTLE MERMAID) as Granny If they're going to hire no-names, they might as well just keep the Streamline dub. |

I don't see the problem. Pat Carrol was excellent as Ursula in the Little Mermaid, Tim Daly was good as Superman and Leah Salonga is a Tony Award winning actress who has been the stunt singer for some notable female leads in animation (Jasmine, Mulan, Anastasia, etc). Okay. The last one was a stretch.
The kids might not be a big deal if they are coached correctly, but that's the same with any production. How many marquee child-actors these days do you know of can act, much less voice-act? The last two that I know of are already in their teens. One problem with the Streamline dub. Disney does not own it. |

Tim Daly...haha... I dunno, Dakota Fanning doesn't have a bad voice. Maybe I'm just not "hip" to who would be the ideal voice actors... |

Oooo, Lea Salonga. I remember picking up her Forex box from her a while ago (when she was living in Boston). In return, I got a signed CD of her music and her word processor.

The other Ghilbi dubs that Disney has worked on I thought were very well done, and I can't wait to see what they do next. I think Disney has been doing an awesome job so far, and I have confidence in them to pull off another great job. Can't wait to hear this one.
Btw, Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away are my fave dubs that they have done so far. |

Agreed. I thought Phil Hartman did an especially good dub for JiJi - much more comedic than the Japanese counterpart. |

Lucky! I've been a Lea Salonga fan for the past 12 years ever since I heard the original recording for Miss Saigon. Still even if she doesn't sing, because of her prior work, I'm looking forward to this. (I haven't seen Totoro before, so I don't know how much song goes into it.) |

Yes, the original japanese track (I believe it's mono) will be included in the R1 2-Disc set. |

Yeah, I loved him as Jiji. I loved the movie so much, that I had my penpal in Japan send me a raw copy. It seemed to me Disney took out some things, but I still love the dub more for it's voice actors. Kirsten Dunst made a great Kiki, and when she did Kiki, she was just a child actress what no one really knew outside of Interview with a Vampire, and look at her today, one of the most popular up and coming younge actresses. |

Totally! Kiki's Delivery Service is one of the few anime's where I preferred the English Dub. I'm wishing I had a penpal in Japan to help me pick stuff up too! |
