Hi this is my first post of what is hopefully many. I've liked Anime alot through my lifetime. (im only 24 been liking it since i was about 13) Anyhow as of late I've been into it more than i used to be i was only a bit passive about it. Anyhow to the point i know the difference between bootleg fansub and obviously official.
Im more concerned now maybe to the point of paranoia about if i buy something thats been licensed here it will be censored i dont want that at all and i absolutely refuse to buy it. I mean Anime isnt cheap and i dont want to waste it. Maybe you guys could ease my mind and maybe point me int he right direction on which are safe to buy or not maybe a list? I seem to be into things like Ikkitousen and Kanokon (i know its not licensed yet) and also Kaze no Stigma was really good. Thanks in advance |

To my knowledge, nearly all anime in the US, and especially stuff on dvd, will be uncensored with a minimum of subtitle track + japanese audio, if not dual language.
The days of the mass censored/editted anime I think is over for nearly every company out there and for anything even remotely new I wouldn't even think about if it was changed. I'd just buy it |

Agreed, you're being concerned over nothing. By the time releases hit DVD in the States, even the censoring sometimes used on the Japanese TV broadcasts has been set aside. (This was especially true with Gantz, but there have been many other examples.) With very rare exceptions, the only titles released in any kind of censored form anymore are some of the kiddie-oriented TV-aired stuff, and even that is less true than it used to be.
Basically, you have about a 99% chance these days that any anime DVD you pick up that's been released in the last 3-4 years is completely uncensored. |

That's just a lame excuse to make people feel better about downloading fansubs and never buying anime. Key and Vortextk are right, anything you buy will most likely be uncensored and dual language. If it has only English (Shin-chan), only Japanese (Emma) you will be able to find out with minimal research. Some things are just downright complicated though.

Well once again its good to know. Now i have watched a few fansub series but thats before i really got into it and thinking about the way things worked. I've never actually downloaded anime though only streaming some. I would much prefer to buy them i have a thing for collections i like to have things on my shelf nice neat in a row.....maybe that sounds strange lol so fan though i only have one series and have been reluctant. But sheesh you werent kidding that Kite is enough to give you a headache. |
