The first 3 epsiodes of this were pretty good. And then unfortunately the story was suddenly ended out of no where and the production values went incredibly low. I'm imagining the makers of this OVA ran out of cash and had to end it early. How sad, because I really loved this show. Hopefully the manga gets translated some day, because I want to know the entire story. Don't spoil any plot points though. I think I'm going to pick up the live-action DVDs next.

As far as I know, the OVA didn't really cut short on the original manga, at least not in significant portions. So I don't really think that they just chopped the story to end the show. But I do find the overall production value of 01 is lower than Kikaider OVA, with inferior storytelling and looks choppy in a lot of action scenes. The show didn't feel right with a proper closure, even though that is how it ends in the manga. Just that the show didn't represented it nicely.

About the live action show, really make sure you love Kikaider a lot before spending your money. The show is so aged that you may find more laughs than you would expect. Same thing happened to me when I went out and search for all the old school Kamen Rider episodes, thinking they were really cool. But now that I own a number of them, they are just for nostalgia, but really not much else.

Did you really read the manga or are you making assumptions on what you heard about it? I like oldschool Godzilla movies, so I think I can enjoy a 70's sentai show. Looks pretty cool from what I've seen so far.

Just get it. Worth it whatever the reason, whether your into the costumed android, or the chessy 70's film standards and low production values. And it's also worth it for a few good laughs, especially what the monsters say. Laughing

Monster: I will kill Kikaida with my Probing Tenticles of Freezing Doom and make him suffer!!

(20 minutes later)

Monster: ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!! *falls to ground, explosion*

Change! 1, 2, 3!!

I thought the Hakider live action movie was good, the DVD contains the original threatrical version as well as the director's cut. The synopsis is basically a cross between Terminator and Mad max and a bit of M.D.Geist; Death Force..but much better than the latter. check this one out. Cool
