I've read some reviews on this but I'm still wondering if this thing even exists. Does anyone here own it? If you do would you like to sell it to me? Wink I'd really like to have it someday considering Yukikaze is definitely one of the greatest shows I've ever seen, but every site I have checked either has it listed as out of stock or on order from manufacturer.

Yeah I just got a ps3 and I wanted to buy this but it's like it disappeared into the ether. There's a review of it on blu-ray.com, and a sold-out listing on amazon, but thats all I can find. The same goes for Honneamise release of Jin-Roh on bluray. That one is impossible to find as well. I imagine Freedom, Royal Space Force, and maybe even Gunbuster/Diebuster will become really hard to find as well.

I did some looking and found a couple places that had it on order but after contacting them couldn't get it any longer. I hear its only 1080i but owning an HD version of this show would be sweet. Guess I'll have to get the Japanese release for twice the price because I procrastinated. Oh well.

Hey I think I may have found a site that still has this in stock. I's on the Canadian Borders/Chapters website:

Wow... you know what, if I saw that two weeks ago I probably would have bought it on the spot. Now I'm desperate for cash and have pretty much all but maxed out my credit cards on Christmas presents and anime sales. Sweet Jesus though, that's a pretty ridiculous price. It better come with a free BJ or something Wink Did you end up getting the one from that Chapters site?

Laughing . I couldn't bring myself to even pay the chapters price. It's just too much for such a short series. I will be trying to order the Jin Roh blu ray from that site soon. Have a feeling I'd never get it though Crying or Very sad .

Yeah that price is pretty wacked out. I'm gonna shoot them an email to see if they even have it in stock. If they don't then I might break down and buy it from that auction with some mystery money... Looks like I may be busting my ass at work for the next couple weeks. I want that show bad...

I'd recommend against it if you haven't already bought it. It's not actually HD, but an upscale. An upscale from an interlaced master. Basically, it will look no better than the DVD version, and possibly even worse.

Actually it does look a bit better than the DVD. Bandai Visual at least did competent upscales (unlike Funimation who feels the need to add noise reduction and edge enhancement to every upscale). In high motion sequences that were full of artifacts in the DVD version, the Blu-ray remains clean. It basically looks as good as it can for something that was animated digitally in SD. Yes, it is 1080i - the alternative is encoding it as 1080p and dropping frames of animation since blu-ray only supports 1080p24. And the audio tracks for both English and Japanese are Dolby TrueHD. That said, that eBay price is insane, and it's not worth it.

Just like every review I've read, the bottom line is this release is for fans only. I truly couldn't care less if the picture is better (because it definitely isn't worse) or if its an upscale of SD material. Either way, this is the highest quality release of Yukikaze ever. The lossless track is supposed to sound pretty epic, and I can't wait to experience it myself. The artbox, booklet, and 30+ minutes of extra features on the Blu-ray were also lacking with the DVD release.
