This series isn't a Geneon series. It was originally released by Synch-Point. There is not a single rational reason for any retailer to associate a Funimation release of FLCL with Geneon at all. None.

Well good then. RIN, Slayers, Bamboo Blade, and now, FLCL are all on my list. I know there's more, but they are slipping my mind right now.

EDIT: Baccano!, that's another one. Oh, and EVA on Blu-ray.

I'm all up for rescuing recent series but the oldies need some love too.

I'm crossing my fingers for the best x3

I will sacrifice my whole collection of anime for a rerelease of Great Teacher Onizuka.

I will probably buy this. I used to watch it on Cartoon Network, but I was so sleepy that I don't remember much.

It's like Christmas in January!

I still have the show on VHS that I taped when it originally aired. I could never justify the expense of the DVD's to myself (especially since it was 3 separate discs for a 6 episode show..) and by the time I was a teenager with a job, the show was completely out of print in the United States. I hope that they've gotten the new masters from Japan, which I've heard are much better than what was originally released in the states.

It's a shame that FLCL was animated digitally (that is what I'm hearing anyway). Just another chance for Funi to screw up the video on the Blu-Ray version*. If they simply do the upconversion on the disc (as opposed to letting my TV/BR Player/Etc) do it, then that is fine, but I have a feeling that we'll get a heavy dose of EE and DNR to go along with the upconversion. Having said that, the BR copy would still have higher quality audio than the DVD version, which makes it sort of a push.

Either way, I am so glad that Sync-Point finally relinquished control of my favorite series after all these years.

*(unless it was digitally animated in a higher resolution, which we can all hope for, but we shouldn't hold our breaths)

My post didn't come across snappy did it? I just wanted to reassure you but looking at it again, I realize it could have been taken the wrong way.

And yes, all of those shows you mentioned are awesome. (Okay, I haven't actually seen RIN and only parts of FLCL but I own the rest!)

So not Bakemonogatri then?

Man, 17 Live Action movies and a relicense, it's like Funimation just had a bunch of crap they wanted to announce and decided to dress it up like a whore in a prom dress.

My god are you tough to impress....sometimes in order to go forward, we need to look back. By that I mean, don't you think that maybe things like this that have good sales potential have a better chance of getting some newer shows later this year.

As someone who knows what's going on but cannot tell, I will say: give up. It's officially in licensing hell.

Edit: Utena also has issues, though not as bad. Feint hope on that one.

It may not be something brand new, but FLCL is one of those cases where finding the DVDs is hard, and on top of that, it was always expensive to begin with. A lot of their other license rescues were for shows one could already obtain for pretty damn cheap, this is different. This is actually a real rescue for a show that people really do care about, not something that was once popular for a small bit of time, like Gungrave.

Yes, a version that hopefully won't look ghastly! The cram-7-episodes-to-a-disc release looks awful.

I already have the FLCL box, but I'll be picking up the BDs if it turns out not to be a DVD upscale. No BD version on Amazon Japan doesn't exactly reassure me, though.
