Definitely. On a side note: The fact that Black Bird is ranking so well makes me feel more than a little ill inside.

-- seems to me there is a lot of anger about all the shoujo titles on this list, though that really shouldn't be such a surprise. From what I keep hearing, women buy more printed media than visual media like DVDs... so it only follows that they would be buying manga. ...and I know of a lot of women who buy Naruto for all the bishies. |

What's wrong with shoujo getting in the top ten? Isn't it "who's making the profit" instead of "what's being sold" that's important in this industry? (few exceptions)
As a female anime/manga fan, I demand that I should have the opportunity to buy stories and fanservice geared towards girls and women. And looking at the charts, it'd be safe to assume that others feel the same way. |

I don't think they meant shoujo in general just... those particular titles. Everyone has different tastes though, so to each their own. The only shoujo title on this list I like is Alice in the Land of Hearts, and that's more of a guilty pleasure than anything. I know it's not quality.

Vampire Knight is well-plotted for a shojo, and it's dripping with angst. So that's most likely why it's so popular. Black Bird, on the other hand, makes me die a little inside. I find it to be incredibly sexist and demeaning. The premise of a girl who is fated to be abused and tormented by demons, and eventually forced to be married to one, is sickening.

Well, both Black Bird and Vampire Knight made me wanted to die inside when I tried them out, so that tells you my opinion of their being quality shoujo, but to each their own. |
