Would you like to see a Manga Comic Book Crossover? If so, what kind of crossovers would you like to see?

I don't know. What would you like to see? It's customary for the OP to provide his/her opinion and a few examples before asking others.

I would definitely like to see a Gatchaman/Justice League or maybe a Devilman/Ghost Rider crossover.

I'd like to see a Black Lagoon/Sin City crossover. I think it would be pretty rad, even though the art styles are quite different.

Alright, I guess there is always a Dragon Ball Superman crossover, that could involve Frieza and Darkseid.

Another interesting crossover could be either Death Note and Batman and Death note and Punisher.

I've heard of several Shonen Jump crossovers that were published in Japan, but they were so geared towards promoting the magazine that they were rather ridiculous - to the degree of Eyeshield and Dragon Balls or something to that extent.

To be honest, I'd like to see something like Hikaru no Go with the Prince of Tennis, since it's not too out of the way.

How about Batman and Ratman? Razz

Really, that would be cool.

I think a .Hack and Digimon crossover could be neat.

I don't even like seeing comic book crossovers. If I want to read about two characters, I'll read both their respective series. Trying to mash them together is just nonsense.

I don't think manga x comics crossover really works because the attitudes and psychologies are so vastly different. The formats and concepts are different. The shapes, placement and pacing of art is different. They are different experiences. In manga no one is alone. One character may be central, but there are friends/co-characters to help. In comics, the hero(es) stand(s) above the rest of their world with superpowers to save the world: Superman, X-Men, Conan, Red Sonja, Fantastic Four, Buffy, Angel. In manga, the central character works within the matrix of that world: Eternal Sabbath, Full Metal Panic, Godchild, Naruto, One Piece. The difference is person IN the machine, NOT person VS the machine. In comics, villains are purely evil: any villain in any of the mentioned comics. In manga, villains are usually more complex or missing altogether. The conflict is with a situation. In comics, complexity is reserved for the dark, emotionally tortured hero.

This just skims the surface but I think it's enough to show that the world views, the treatments of character and concept just don't mesh.

What it really boils down to is that by transporting either or both characters to another world, whatever world that may be, the portrayal of the characters is essentially changed. They will no longer be the original characters because someone else is telling the story and that story is perforce out of the context that defines the characters.

I wouldn't mind a manga comic book crossover. If Square Enix and Disney can have Final Fantasy characters and Disney characters crossover in Kingdom Hearts (although it's a video game, it also had a manga). Then a manga Comic book crossover is possible. I would love to see:

-Warner Bros cartoon character like DC Comic superheroes, Looney Tunes, and other character like Tiny Toons and Animaniacs and Hanna-Barbera cartoon crossing over with Shonen Jump characters. I would love to see Son Goku from DBZ and Superman working together. I would also love to see Bug Bunny and Daffy Duck working alongside Naruto, Luffy, and Ichigo. I wouldn't mind seeing it as a manga or a video game in the style of Kingdom Hearts

-Marvel and Tatsunoko crossover, we saw that Capcom doing Marvel vs Capcom series and Tatsunoko vs Capcom game. Also, we saw Tatsunoko team up with Marvel to adapt Wolverine and Iron Man into anime. So why not do a Marvel Superheroes team up with Tatsunoko heroes like Gatchaman, Casshern, Time Bokan, Yatterman, Tekkamen, and other Tatsunoko heroes and have them team up with Marvel superheroes like Iron Man, Spiderman, X-men, and the like of other Marvel superheroes. I would love to see a manga or a comic book featuring this type of crossover.

-Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter. If this was to happen, I would love to see a manga or anime prequel for this.

-Transformer taking form of Gundam. We saw how Transformer taking form of beast and many form of robots. Transformers are Super Robots why not make them real robots. I think having the taking form of Gundams would be kind of cool. I always thought Optimus Prime would look good as RX-78 Gundam (I imagine a truck turning into a RX-78 Gundam Smile ). Jetfire can take form of Zeta Gundam, Bumblebee can take form of GM (he may later take form of Burning Gundam). I like to see Megatron take form of Hyaku Shinki or Char's red Zaku (he later would take form of Talgesse 3). The autobot would be called Gundambots, decepticons would still retain their name although a lot of them take form of non-gundam mobile suit, Starscream as kampfer anyone?

I'm very sorry; I think I misinterpreted the meaning of this thread. Was it meant to be a Western comic book crossing over with a Japanese manga?

Yes, it was manga/western comics crossover.

I agree that Luffy is cartoonish, but he has a continuing story and a long term goal. Bugs and Daffy are simply ridiculous. It still essentially changes the characters of both sides and the stories' focuses and natures. With the Gundam-Transformers cross, you've changed the very fabric of both worlds. In Transformers, the super machines save the world. In Gundam, the robots are tools. They are driven by the warriors INSIDE them. The Gundam story is one of politics, of people. The war is an extension of conflicting policies.

I don't know anything about the games.

Nope. You haven't convinced me. If enough people want to do cross-overs, they will happen. I don't see it doing very well. But that's my view. In any case, I wouldn't buy it.

Actually I came up with a story for Transformers taking form of Gundam. This story will sound a lot like Gundam but it will retain the battle and fight between Gundambots (they're autobots) and Decepticon (same thing but they take form of non-gundam mobile suit) just like Transformers. The difference in this story is that the Gundambots and Decepticons that they are not alien robot from Cybertron like other Transformers stories, they're made by human and they are top-secret prototype weapon. Optimus Prime, Jetfire, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Starscream are all made by human in my "Transformer take form of Gundam" story. They all take form of familiar Gundams and non-gundam robots. The war would be between a Earth Federation-like group and a Zeon-like group. The Gundambots was created by the Earth Federation-like group, and the Decepticon was made by the Zeon-like group. The Zeon-like group programmed the Decepticon to kill and destroy anyone who is member of Earth federation like organzation and the Gundambots are programmed to defend earth and attack anyone who tried to harm people.

Spike Witwicky in my story is a child prodigy and his character would be like Amuro Ray from Mobile Suit Gundam. He would pilot Optimus Prime (in his RX-78 2 Gundam) and Optimus Prime can either be piloted or go auto-pilot since because he is an AI like in previous Transformers. Megatron will be piloted by a char-clone and just like Optimus Prime he can be either piloted by a Human or Megatron can autopilot without a human. I could go on but I could always PM you my story and my idea.

Also, Olady you never play Kingdom Hearts or Marvel vs Capcom?? What's up with that? You really need to play those games it'll probably convince you that if this crossover can happen in game, they can do it for Comic book/manga. Start playing those games!!! Mad
