A slightly unsung hero whose name gets lost in the credits but a hero and legend none the less.
It saddens me that another person whose work I have greatly appreciated has passed on. May he rest in peace. and my condolences go out to his family and friends. |

First Satoshi Kon, now this? Jeez....this is turning out to be one very sad week.
Rest in peace Shojuro Yamauchi, you will be greatly missed. It makes me slightly nervous....you know what they say about death....it always comes in threes..... |

Well if you can count the number of people involved in anime production on one hand or even two compared to the thousands that are active, it's a good chance one of them at random isn't a name you recognize. It's a good thing the deaths/illnesses we do hear about isn't running down a list of the most prominent ones most of us would recognize. Seriously, you hadn't heard of Satoshi Kon until he passed away?

Wow, some classic stuff in there too. Thank you for helping bring to life some of my favorite movies Shojuro Yamauchi. The Dagger of Kamui holds a special place in my heart for being the first anime movie I've ever seen.

Oh no...the death comes in three thing has moved into Japan now too? DAMN IT.
This time I've seen a bit more of this guy's work, and I've heard his name before too. Of the stuff listed for him on this site, I've seen the three Lupin the 3rd movies and Spirited Away. Do we know what he died of? Gah, now I'm worrying on who the third is going to be...a lot of my favorite seiyuu are getting up there in years too. |

This is not intended to make light of these profound losses, just an observation...I thought that Carl Macek, Peter Fernandez, and Satoshi Kon counted as the three, since these were all giants in the industry (or were those spaced too far apart on the calendar to count?) At any rate, condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Yamauchi. 2010 is indeed turning into a somber year for anime. |

Oh geez, how did I forget about them? You're right...which if that's right, Yamauchi is the start of a second cycle of three.
And you're right, 2010's not going so good for losing people. |

RIP Shojuro Yamauchi. I loved some of the films he worked on like Grave of the Fireflies, the Lupin III movies and Spirited Away. Another tragic loss for the anime industry.

Very sad news. Another death just when the industry needs such talent.
Rest in peace, Shojuro Yamauchi. Among other things, you will always be remembered as the animator of one of the greatest war films of all time. |
