We likely did too, it just never occurred to me to look. Of course the period when it would have been helpful was when I was beginning in the late 90s. This may have been before libraries got into anime.

Hey Piggles! Sorry to hear you've been under the weather.

If I'm recalling your tastes right, you might give Witch Hat Atelier, Gals Can't Be Kind to Otakus? The Food Diary of Miss Maid, and An Observation Log of My Fiance Who Calls Herself a Villainess a try.

I've been meaning to post a progress report on my Anime Spring for a while now and a query from my esteemed fellow anime buddy Edjwald in the Ramparts of Ice discussion thread has finally got me off my butt. Thanks, Mr. Nosy! Wink

But before that, just want to add that I hope Piglet the Grate is making a speedy recovery. I was sorry to hear you are going through some kind of health issue. Dr. Blood- recommends lots of anime!

Anyhoo, it has been a weird season for me. I got off to a very rocky start because as luck would have it, I was out of town for a week when the season began, which restricted my viewing time. As usual, there were a ton of shows I wanted to at least sample. I was so overwhelmed by a backlog that I had to shove a bunch of shows into a category called "The Fridge" until I got caught up with a core of about 12 or 13 titles.

What happened after that is I started to shed titles at a high clip. Such that right now, I'm only following six shows: Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Dorohedoro S2, MAO, Ramparts of Ice, Rooster Fighter and Snowball Earth. Oh, and I just recently resurrected Food Diary of Miss Maid which I had sampled and tossed aside early on. I have even shelved the most recent season of Dr. Stone which I'm pretty sure I'll come back to when I'm in a more Patient anime mood and the second half of Scum of the Brave which I'm not sure I will.

It seems when it comes to individual seasons, I have two moods these days: Patient and Impatient. If I'm in a patient mood like I was in the Winter, I'll have as many as 30 titles on my plate. When I'm an impatient mood, I'll only have a handful. Recently there is a pattern where I swing from Patient to Impatient from season to season. If the pattern holds, that may mean I'll be carrying a larger load in the Summer, which is my least favourite time of the year to be watching anime.

I'm down to two shows this season. Kusonoke's Garden of Gods and There's Always a Catch. The latter is on life support.

My basic guide line is a good show is one where the episode ends before I expect it. A less good show is one where I find myself checking how much time is left in the episode. That usually results in a drop. I recently started to binge rewatch The Irregular at Magic High School. The episodes still have the effect of surprising me when the end music starts.

Going into week 8, I'm still mostly or entirely keeping up with 23 series, my biggest viewing load since last summer. At least a quarter of that is just the kind of time-killer trash I seem to find a few of on my viewing list every season (like The Strongest Job or Black Cat and a Witch this season), but there are some highlights.

I'm especially enjoying Always a Catch! and An Observation Log, the latter of which has shifted from just being entertaining to actually being good in the last couple of episodes. (There's a good reason why it spiked on the weekly rating chart with week 6.) Agents of the Four Seasons has a more solid emotional core than the weekly reviews are giving it credit for, and The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King has been both fun and one of the season's more fan servicey titles.

The other two I feel deserve special attention are My Ribdiculous Reincarnation (for the widely-varied animation styles used and insane absurdities inherent in its skits) and Needy Girl Overdose, which is easily one of the most cerebral and socially conscious anime series of the past year or so. The latter is definitely not a casual view, though; I normally eschew my habit of eating meals while watching anime for that one, so I can devote 100% attention to all its little details.

As briefly mentioned elsewhere, I've dropped down to 15 that I'm still current on, but I have every intention of catching back up to Even A Replica Can Fall in Love, Agents of the Four Seasons, Witch Hat Atelier, The Classroom of the Black Cat and the Witch, Re:Zero, and Marriagetoxin at some point. I didn't get behind on them because I thought they'd dropped in quality.

My two faves are probably Kirio Fan Club and Nippon Sangkou, both of which are outside the per uze. I kind of halfway love Kirio Fan Club and am halfway mesmerized by it in the same way that people can't look away from a traffic accident.

An Observation Log of my Fiancee Who Calls Herself a Villainess probably comes third.

I haven’t dropped any of the series this season. Heck, I don’t even remember what the last series was that I dropped at all! I seem to be one of the few people that hardly ever drop a series once they start watching it.

Something I forgot to mention above... recently, I've become extremely comfortable with having partially finished titles under my belt. In my earlier anime days, I would feel entirely internal pressure to finish a title if I was was far enough along with it, even if I wasn't enjoying it any more. Now, I just coast as long as I'm not bored or irritated. And if I'm "full" of a certain title after, say, six episodes, then I have no qualms about moving along without regret. An example of this type of thing for me this spring was The Strongest Job is Apparently Not etc, etc. I enjoyed most of the six episodes I watched but that portion was enough for me.

I'm following 50 spring shows. Dropped Needy Girl Overdose, Kirio Fan Club, and Pardon the Intrusion after 2 ep from all three. The shows im enjoying the most this season are:
Ace of the Diamond 2 part 2
An Observation Log of my Fiance
Daemons of the Shadow Realm
I'm Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl
Botan Blossoms When Drunk
Marriagetoxin
Reincarnated Slime S4
The Klutzy Class Monitor
Wistoria S2
Witch Hat Atelier

I'm caught up on all the shows not currently getting dubbed and the same day dubs (7). Caught up on all the standard simuldubs (17), 2ish weeks behind the simulcast.

Geez, that sounds like a gypsy's curse to me. Now I'm picturing you staring at a TV screen with dead eyes going "Why, why did I ever click on Puniru is a Cute Slime?"

This may well become the only recorded instance where I tell someone that they should take a page out of Blood's book Wink At least until he finally finishes thatI Become the only Male in a Unit of Mecha Driving Ninja Milfs During The Zombie Apocalypse, but Now My Childhood Friend and The Popular Girl Who Sat Next To Me in Class Are Forming a Yandere Revenge Squad? light novel he's been working on for ages.

You're not watching 50 titles like getchman are you?

Good lord, I am struggling to stay up to date with the 32 shows that I am following this season. Trying to do that with 50 sounds like hell to me. I also want to watch more older anime but that is going very slowly due to nearly every season being so loaded. The lack of break weeks is not helping either.

What older anime are you considering watching? If you are watching 32 current shows the older ones are probably better than half of the current shows.

At the top of my oldie list are Patlabor: The Mobile Police - The TV Series, Aria the Origination (I have seen the previous seasons) plus the second season of Natsume's Book of Friends.

Get yourself a fridge like Blood- has. Put the bottom third of the current shows in there and put the shows you listed at the top of your priority list. Those shows are foundational. All these years later people are still talking about them. Most of what shows in any new season will not be remembered two months after their last episode runs.
