This has very good animation, design that is appealing even if it's not really groundbreaking, and I rather like that it feels like a combination of whimsical joy and more serious and depressing elements. Obviously I don't claim to know how the film will turn out based on the trailer, but I like the trailer nonetheless. I think my only concern is that it may be overly simplistic with the whole humans=good, monsters=bad thing. The design reminds me of Princess Arete a bit (which reminds me that I still haven't seen Mai Mai Miracle which I think was also directed by Sunao Katabuchi of Black Lagoon fame and which looked amazing from the trailer) and of the more fuwa fuwa (fluffy) designs in Junichi Sato works.
