Just a thought but maybe it's the complete and utter bullshit like this that makes region locking sound like a bad idea.

Spent far longer than I should have debating how the region lock for the PS3 version is a terrible idea (not necessarily connected to potential indefinite delays).
The sick pleasure of winning an internet debate even when your country and region are screwed out of a game release... >_> And North America and Japan are enjoying the game by now aside from those who imported/travelled with a European system.
Still don't believe in that reverse importation nonsense, where they expected Japanese buyers (who should be part of the original 90% sell through rate) to import the game to arrive weeks later to maybe save on money which they could have saved through second hand, borrowing, sharing or looking on Amazon. >_>

It's such a japanese solution to the problem;
"Guys! Guys! People are buying our game/anime/squidgy imported! If another 3 people don't buy the game, we're going to go under!"
"Quick! Make it so that those imported copies ether don't work (and have a cascading effect on people in a whole other region) or are horribly crippled somehow!"
"Er, couldn't we just make our prices not ridiculous and cater to a bigger market thus obeying basic principals of Supply and Demand. I mean it would be a lot simpler to-"

There's a reason we pay so much less for things like animé in the west is because we're only playing for the licence not the initial production. Take a show like Hyouka for an example that has a run time of 25 minutes do you know how much 25 minutes worth of animation costs to make? and that leaves only 5 minutes of advertising time. Then there's network time they have to pay for and marketing on top of that something which companies like Manga E.UK don't pay for.
