I hadn't been paying attention to the news for this, since I don't care for the series, but I had to check to see if the US was one of the countries.

And Kenshin is played by Nogami? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Consider my interest piqued, just to see how he's grown since Den-O.

Gah, I hope the US is next, because I need this film so bad, it's not even funny.

Keishi Ōtomo's live-action film adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin manga has been licensed for overseas distribution in over 66 countries. The countries span Europe, Latin America, and Asia and include Germany, Mexico, and Taiwan. In addition, the rights for another 17 countries are under negotiations.

Hopefully USA, and Canada is one of those 17 countries that will pick up distribution right for the movie.

Obligatory "USA will get screwed by not being one of the countries it's not released in" gripe post.

But on a more positive note, i'm guessing arthouse route or a film festival. Hopefully one is HIFF like they did with the Ace Attorney Movie.

I plan on seeing it this weekend. The life-sized posters at my local movie theater have been enticing me for a month now. This was my first real gateway drug to anime, i.e. where I loved what I was watching and knew it was anime (without that last caveat it's Escaflowne).

Also, while I doubt this would ever get a theater release in the US, I'd hope that the abiding love for Kenshin among older fans would make it a smart buy for a DVD release.

While I don't see this getting a wide release I think it could do well in a limited release/art house circuit.

Even people not familiar with the anime/manga might enjoy it for the "samurai aspect".

So long as the IP holder of this doesn't have ridiculous pipe dreams like Toei did with Battle Royale, it will have a great chance.

Great to see that this will get a wider release. Saw it on the weekend and strongly feel that its the best live-action adaptation of an anime/manga that Japan made to date (other honourable mentions being Gantz, Yamato and Death Note) and is by far the most faithful to the original source material.
The only minor nitpicks i had with it were that (a)Megumi was cast a little young imo, (b)the movie was a little long and (c) the ending credits song is aural vomit. The ONLY way you should end a live action kenshin flick is with a new version of SOBAKASU damn it!
Takeru Sato utterly MAILED the role though. I was skeptical going in but came out pretty impressed.
